Quite the valid point if I may say so. :)

Yes, it is.. but the forum still can't just leave up totally inappropriate material. And I'm not completely sure that it's possible to define, ahead of time, exactly what is and is not appropriate.
It might me nice if there were a formula for going about protesting that something was removed. Like a specific "I posted ____ for ______ reason and it's relevant to this forum because ______." So that people would know how to actually make their case about why something should be permitted. :? I think a lot of times problems come up because people get flustered and don't know how to go about it, so then they're rude to the moderators, and obviously that sucks for the moderators, who can't really properly address the issue when the person is being rude to them..
Of course, sometimes it also gets confusing when you're not sure if a post has been moved or removed..

How about a thread in this forum of unofficial guidelines? I know discussion of closed topics isn't allowed, but could the moderation team perhaps put up a list of things that have been found to be disruptive and not allowed, with at least some slight reasoning? It might also give people who want to have similar discussions a chance to PM a mod for more info, and find out ahead of time whether or not their topic might be allowed or not allowed? That might be a helpful reference, so people feel less confused by what is and is not considered appropriate. Not something that's like an all-or-nothing, but like how they use case law to determine what's likely to be considered legal or not legal.. Like a "tips and tricks on making sure your posts are appropriate" thread.

Also, I think a lot of people expect that when somebody says to message them with questions or concerns, that they don't really mean it. Particularly if they've gotten in trouble for it at other forums. It's hard to accept when someone is being honest when people in your past haven't been.
