Members of Wrong Planet are expected to respond to civil requests. Unfortunately, many seem to think that, because they have Asperger's and/or are otherwise in a country where 'freedom of speech' is put on a pedestal, they can say what they want with impunity, and don't have to cop the consequences. They are in error, and grave error at that.

Freedom of speech does not mean defiance of authority, or at least reasonable authority. And yet, we have people who think that, when they are given a civil request, they consider it an affront on their freedom. Here's a newsflash. This is a privately owned website. Alex Plank makes the rules. Not you or I. I am merely here to enforce them. And if you break the rules, then I break your membership. Simple concepts to understand, no? And yet, I am amazed at the amount of people who cannot grasp these concepts. Maybe they don't read the rules, an understandable omission. But I think that there are a great deal many of them here who defy the rules just because they cannot deal with civil requests. They don't like being told what to do. Fine then. They're not welcome here.

Do you want to know why? This is not a social BBS, this is not a philosophical BBS, this is, first and foremost, a support website for people with Asperger's Syndrome and Autistic Spectrum Disorders. If a minority is being disruptive, and not allowing for proper support of the majority, then said minority must be dealt with. Conformity is not the goal here as much as a relative harmony and support.

In other words, my actions during my moderation duties are born out of utilitarianism. If you think I'm being harsh, it's because I have my eye on the bigger picture, as well as the smaller picture. I give people multiple chances before resorting to the final resort of banning. Problem is, many are too myopic to tell when my patience wears thin.

I'll drop in again in a few months, just to check out what condition my condition is in (which is OK at the moment, thanks for asking)
