What is a "WP Supporter"?
Didn't he go awol for a long time? I'm not saying he shouldn't get payed. But just not from the vunerable users.
Is he charging you? No. It works like this: If you think the site is worth you paying, say, $25 a month, and you have that, then you pay it. Apparently, you don't think it's worth any money. Hence, you don't pay.
It's that simple.
Yeah, I guess its fair. As long as there's honesty to what the donations are for.

I have thought long and hard about this. I spend a lot of time on WP, and I get a lot of value out of it. I earn a good living, and I have enough money to donate support to the things that I believe in, and WP is one of them.
But unlike a donation to the society that runs my community centre, or the society that runs my local theatre, here there is no corporate structure to limit liability.
So far as I am aware, WP is organized as a sole proprietorship. Advertising revenue and supporter donations are Alex's personal income, from which he defrays the expenses of the site. So, if I become a funder of Alex and Alex's activity, and if WP winds up as a defendant in litigation, each and every one of the WP supporters is potentially attachable as a defendent, because each of them has made a financial contribution to the site's operation.
If WP supporter was a "premium membership" category for which a distinct benefit was available, I would happily buy it--for in that case I would merely be a consumer of a service.
If WP supporter involved contribution to a registered charity or non-profit corporation, then I would happily contribute, because the corporate personality would provide a liability shield.
But in the present structure, I simply have to forego, and it makes me unhappy, because this is something that I truly do want to support, but I cannot assume that risk.

I haven't read everything on this thread but are there ways to donate without doing the monthly membership option
I would be interested in donating periodically when I have extra money & I don't need a badge but it would be nice. Do the badges say what level donater the member is or are they all the same ![]()

The badge just means that you have donated your money to WrongPlanet and its to say "Thank You".

At one point there were color codes for levels but I don't know about now. I also don't know if the badges have been updated in any way recently.
