Ought there to be a subforum for Christians to discuss their views about the Bible without having to constantly act as verbal punching bags and other such detractions from fruitful conversation?

You think it is rational to believe in a god?

If it's for conservative Christians then won't it, by definition, by exactly the OPPOSITE of sensible/rational? :)

You might notice I have placed "sensible, rational" within quotations to allow for differing thoughts about that.

Understood, but I thought a "sticky" might at least be a start/trial.

What would be the criteria for determining whether such a trial would be a success or failure?

Yes. In terms of a ratio it could be considered the probability of the universe and its contents being designed divided by the probability of such merely occurring on its own.

Whether or not people actually make good use of it.

With hostility being prohibited/removed/deleted, the success of the "Non-Hostile Christian Discussion" thread would/could essentially speak for itself. And rather than having a single "sticky" running endlessly with intermixed topics, a given thread could be a "sticky" for a week and then a new "sticky" could be the next week's thread.

Those are my thoughts too. Not sure about having concurrent stickies though, topics could get more disjointed than just in a single sticky.

My inclination would be to see how well it was used. If it fell into disuse then it would be un-stickied and allowed to sink down the page.

At the moment the only voice I see here asking for a separate sub-forum for Christians is iamnotaparakeet, so such a thread looks like it would be a monologue at the moment!

i've tried to talk about these things earlier here at WP. these days i'm so busy trying to move apartment. it is very difficult. but maybe i'm gradually finding a way to accomplish it ..

i feel these issues with Christianity .. (or theism generally?) .. are often very sensitive and intimate things .. like when me and my girlfriend rarely dare bring it up to discussion. we agree a lot deep down. but it is still difficult to discuss. maybe not least because it matters so much to both of us. IOW .. not sure if maybe the subject is too sensitive for ppl to dare discussing it seriously here at WP.

i feel the sarcasm etc etc with which theistic experiences are met with here at WP is very daunting indeed. i don't like it at all. but since it seems to be the mood of the forum i have tried to back down and not challenge that too much anymore.

i feel maybe there are issues within Christianity and theism that might be useful and important to discuss concerning AS/D and faith and so on .. like maybe we autistic ppl deal with religion somehow in our own way .. i know for intance i have never ever felt at home in any congregation of any kind. my faith is entirely private and personal. never was member of anything. maybe the reason is my autism? ... questions like that, perhaps .. or maybe how one experiences God .. prayer .. bible ..

i like the idea. but not sure how much i personally would use it right this minute.

Coming in from the outfield here, but this is a site dedicated to AS and ASD issues. Might you have more luck finding a conservative Christian site and asking them to create an AS/ASD subforum? Then you are generally outside the non-believer culture and can discuss your unique AS/ASD topics in an environment more conducive to your beliefs.

Video games.

Movies/Television.

Sports/health.

Job hunting.

College life.

Etc.

Instead of having subforums about these individual topics, why not go to a forum about these topics and try to convince them to add a section for people with ASD?

The goal here is to have a place for non-hostile discussion of religious-type stuff, and I cannot imagine any Christian forum -- I have been on many -- ever making a place for folks like us to do that.

The goal here is for AS/ASD folks to discuss "believer" stuff, not AS/ASD topics.

Is that what you seek? Have I misunderstood?

anyone can pots in those forums though, and duscussion/debate is allowed. You're asking for a censored forum just because you don't like that other people don't share your delusions. Which is stupid. Also it will make wp look bad to new people imo, if we have a "conservative christians" forum, especially if they aren't forums for other religions and atheists. I reckon that would put a lot of people off joining.

iamnotaparakeet - All I am saying is that keeping the peace and trying to prevent anyone from saying anything to you that might be offensive will be an impossible job here. The issues you quote above are not really "hot topics" and most people don't get offended if someone expresses an opinion about a movie or video game that is in opposition to your own.

Leejosepho - Christian websites are filled with people arguing against Christianity and the existence of God? All of them? I've never been to one but it seems to me that any halfway moderated site should be able to prevent a lot of that, just as we prevent people from coming in here and bashing Autistics as a group

No, you have already agreed to voluntarily refrain from hostility within it ... and let us all please be sure to keep even this specific discussion civil.

Christian forums can get just as rough as some of the stuff we sometimes see right here in PPR, but the question here is really a much simpler one:

Quote:
===================
WrongPlanet Rules
===================

Conduct
-----------
The following activities are unacceptable on WrongPlanet:
...
2. Personal attacks.
This includes insinuation, ridicule and personal insults, regardless of whether direct or indirect. Attacking an opinion, belief or philosophy is acceptable, but attacking the person making the comments is not.

Question: Will the "stridents" here on WP voluntarily and essentially let Christians have some discussions where "Attacking an opinion, belief or philosophy" is done from within rather than from without (or at least far more "nicely" than now sometimes presently done in PPR)?
