I was once given a warning for calling myself an a**hole and that passes the filter. :? So since then I have been using the word jerk for that other word.

You are allowed to swear if you don't direct it at someone else or use it as an insult. Just don't go over the top outside the adult forum :). Basically you can call yourself an a**hole if you really must, just don't do it to others.

I specifically was told to 'Piss Off' because I said that someone was being disrespectful to someone else.

Your site rules say NO SWEARING. So it's either a rule, or it isn't.

Black and white, right?

Apparently long term members are allowed to attack new members. I found the way it was handled, and the way that this member is stressed, yet still allowed to post here, quite strange.

Why are there moderators here, if they do not moderate appropriately?

Here's some evidence about how a unhinged member can turn dangerous if handled badly;

If you don't like someone's posts, you can just scroll past them. Unless they're violating the rules, in which case report them to a mod!! !! !! !!!111111111111111

it's nothing to do with being an old or new member.
and everyone is entitled to a bad day where they snap at people, are you telling me you've never had a bad day?
i think you're over-reacting, it's really not a big deal, is it?

I don't get why people care about swearing. It's filtered anyway. Although even if it wasn't it's just a f*****g word

And I agree with whoever said people can just ignore someone by scrolling past their posts. On I2 there's an ignore mod but I've only ever used it when we had spammers who were flooding threads with pictures

If I find someone boring or annoying, I just skim their posts or don't read them at all

Also I've noticed people who do use ignore mods usually still read that person's posts. I guess they can't resist the temptation lol, especially if they only put the person on ignore to make a point or something

I don't know what this has to do with the topic at hand, but "piss off" isn't swearing.

Piss off is swearing in the UK I think

I wouldn't have said it in front of a teacher at school anyway :P

Hmm. Might be a culture gap here. In the US this is the equivalent of "screw you" or "get bent".

It's fairly rude, whether it's technically in the category of swearing or not. Perhaps there are official bodies out there that have committees to determine what is and what isn't.

I think here it's meant to be worse than that. Not as bad as "f**k off" but worse than "screw you"

I mean I think it would be bleeped out on tv before 9pm

Are we allowed to tell someone to "Piss off?"

I used "ignore" back when it was available here. I never peeked at anyone's posts when I had them on ignore. One reason that I used it was because I often could not recognize who the person was until I was partway into their posts. I have wondered why the feature was taken away, and why people won't put it back, myself. And if the only reason is really "But most people who use it don't really use it..." isn't that that person's choice? I'd rather have a choice than just avoiding the forum altogether. I'm from the days when killfiles (a file that stops a person's emails or Usenet posts from appearing on one's screen, basically the Usenet/email equivalent of an ignore button) were the common and accepted way of dealing with such situations, and people have been using them responsibly for far longer than this board has even existed. I'd really appreciate the ability to do the same on WP, and not have it decided for me on the basis of things like "you wouldn't really use it anyway," which is a decision that should be left up to each individual user.

Oh, and I don't think I've ever announced to anyone that I was putting them on ignore. That would defeat the purpose. So I never used it "to make a point" either. I used it entirely so that I wouldn't have to deal with certain people's posts if I didn't want to. I doubt the people involved even knew who they were, as many times I had not talked to the people in question, ever, so there was no way it would be obvious. Since the option of simply skipping a person's posts is impossible to me, I'd appreciate someone bringing 'ignore' back instead of everyone giving reasons why not to bring it back.

I've meant to make a post such as this on this forum anyway, but never got around to it until I read this thread.

I'll make sure that this is in front of the admins when they go about updating the software

Actually I told you to "piss off" after you told me I was attacking other members when I was not. You also said something about me "having an autistic tanty" which is pretty offensive on its own.

I didn't do anything wrong, and I will fight you till the end if that's what you want, and it seems to be, as you just WONT leave me alone.

I would just ignore her. I find it odd a newbie would join and pick a fight with a person when they haven't done anything wrong. Unless she or he is a returned member.

But isn't Eclair posting under a nickname called delic, they both did have an identical avatar at one point.
