i am guessing at this point, that australia is far better wired [in terms of digital infrastructure] than is america, large parts of which still use antiquated copper wiring. so your nation has far wider overall bandwidth/throughput speed which would enable you to slip ahead into WP in advance of the crowds, whereas us backwards americans would be stuck way back of the pack someplace and by the time we got to the door, the place was full-up yesterday. does anybody else here have anything any more informative than my jejune swag?

Yeah, That not even TAFE Internet can actually stop that screen. Thats once.

That's both factually incorrect, and insane.

And you seem to think a trans-oceanic connection that has to travel not one, but two different oceans is somehow faster?

Yeah, I do. My company does, and Alex does. It's being worked on. There's a reason it's not being talked about.

Everything that anyone else can say is 100% speculation.

Copper wire outdated? I guess so. The only mainstream wiring that is better is Fiber optics, or you could use silver haha. But it is still a very good cheap conductor. My guess why he doesn't have that issue much- he gets on here at times that there are not as many people because of his time zone.

Very slow loading today. I'm tempted to send my replies through the postal service.

Thanks to those who are working on all this.

I'm trying to get a blog set up - I was recently able to post a short message, but a longer message (introduction) is being kicked back with a "can't post links if you've been here less than five days" message. I've been here about a month and didn't include any links in my post, although it was kinda long (2.7 kb). Is there a length limit on blog posts, or is this just one of the things that's broken right now and will be fixed?

Thanks, and, again, thanks to those who are working on this!

Blogs have always been half-broken. Not the same issue as the one described here. One of the mods should be able to provide a better answer to your question

I lack anti-virus. Maybe that will help.

I use Ubuntu 10.04 frequently

I am in Australia

Thats most likely the top 3

Or the fact that you don't browse or post much during peak times...

An overloaded server is an overloaded server, if it was a dos attack you would timeout trying to get to the server instead of receiving a message from the host.

Could you provide a detailed explanation of how exactly running AV on a system would cause a server to respond with an overload page?

Could you explain how exactly australia's internet infrastructure differs from the rest of the developed world and how it has any bearing on this particular problem?

Could you explain how using ubuntu, etc etc etc.

Perhaps you should refrain from offering technical support until you actually know what you are talking about?

And please don't uninstall your AV hoping that it will magically fix a problem with wrongplanet's server.

Agreed.

Though feel free to uninstall windows and install Ubuntu hoping it will magically fix the server. That just might do it. :P

And I am not denying that, That is most likely very true.

The message I got was that a machine on my network (DETNSW) had a virus, Which, Frankly wouldnt surprise me. Its not my machine, As there is no virus, as far as I know, For Ubuntu

Read above statement

Maybe it just likes our IP addresses.

Simply put, Ubuntu does not have a lot of viri, Unlike windows which has them like the bubonic plague.

Perhaps I should, However I did not, In any way, Offer technical support. Not my job to do so.

I have a mac and this site is still really slow, stop trying to say your operating system has to do with it. From what you have said I know more about computer than you and I am not trying to say technical advise because I know I am not very knowledgable about computers.

The ERROR MESSAGE I got was that a machine on my network was infected with a virus. It was a CLOUDFLARE thing.

The site may damn well be slow, So friggin what? You can still access the site, Can you not?
