i don't think it can tell the difference. anything involving the editing of posts or threads is fair game.

Agreed. I'm a realist.

I'm all for realism.
Even for an optimist, unless one lies to oneself all the time, reality is often quite negative.
I'd rather face the negative truth of a situation than live in self-deception.
The fact is that this site has serious shortcomings and that is not going to change.

I'm here for the people, the site....meh.

Does that really make you an optimist, then? It sounds like you're more realistic than that.

The old site was broken. The new site is broken. Oh well. Having said that, the captchas haven't been pestering me very recently. I couldn't post at all at one point before.

"A punch with the truth is better than a kiss with a lie" - supposedly a Russian saying. I like it.

Glad to find I'm far from the only person on here who finds the captcha thing intensely annoying. I was worried when I posted my complaint that I'd get people telling me to be more patient or more competent with computer stuff etc. It is a great relief for that not to have been the case!

I just wish whoever runs this forum (and I have literally no idea how these things are run, so please forgive me those who do, for my ignorance) would just get rid of the sodding things altogether!

the service that provides the captchas is cloudflare, which, contrary to what some people might think is not an anti-spambot measure (since it has been clearly proven to fail in that regard) but a content delivery network that speeds up the delivery of web content, a "reverse proxy". lots of sites use it. it does feature a security "layer" that can be toggled but i'm not sure if the captchas have anything to do with that...

i for one, am thankful that i'm no longer greeted with a browser scan every time i log on. anyone remember that? i found that to be annoying too.

Yeah I remember them. I do get them at one other site.
The captcha is worse though.

I've just made at least ten attempts to post on the Off The Wall forum. The post was quite short, but included a quote from an earlier one. The CAPTCHA was obviously never going to let it through no matter how many times I tried. Using WP these days is often a very alienating experience, but apparently this problem doesn't really exist, because a couple of prominent members say so. :?
