yeah, but it was the art music lit was just an example. it still doesn't work for arts/crafts/hobbies. they are just not exactly the same. like a square is geometrical but geometry isn't about squares. art/music/lit fits as arts/crafts/hobbies but not vice-versa lol. I would never post about knitting in art/music/lit, ;) (not that I knit....just another example :D

Yes! I know exactly what you mean.
I would like to share my "projects" but they're not exactly art.
I've always wondered why there isn't a static Special Interests category on WP.
You'd think that'd be a no-brainer on a forum for Aspies.

I love it! Thank you. I was starting to think I was the only one, lol.
:D :D :D

btw...what kind of projects? my interest is piqued!

I've done practically everything in the name of continuing my sanity.
Lots of recycled and 'found object' craft, paper craft, painting, weaving, macrame, crochet, quilting, jewellery making, woodworking, fabric craft etc, etc - you name it - I've probably done it.
I think a Special Interests subforum would be a great place for people to showcase and talk about whatever they're into that doesn't fall into the stereotypically Aspie computer/science/maths/video games category.
Threads on the topic of special interests are made often enough that it would warrant it's own space.

Haha! I like your style, lol. I love recycling in art projects! I’ve done the paper crafts, working on 2 paintings at once currently. I used to enjoy jewelry making, but I moved on from that. I soooooooooo want to get started on woodworking soon! I’m such a nerd that I actually still take notes when I read even though I’m no longer in school! Gardening is my latest love though. I adore getting outside and trimming up the trees and vines growing along the back fence and planting flowers while getting some fresh air and sunshine in the spring. Last year was my first novice year, and I didn’t do too badly. The neighbors kept telling me how much they loved my plants. I lost a few plants in getting to know their different needs. I hope to do even better in 2016. Many things die in the winter of course, but I still have several different kinds of cacti, aloe vera, succulents, and a peach tree. Oh, and my irises and for some reason, one of my sage plants refuses to die this winter :D

It’s amusing how what we think is fun changes as we age.

^ Interests evolve.
It's my opinion that this forum should evolve too.
Alex has been talking about creating more positivity on WP.
What could be more positive than a space for members to talk about their passions - whatever they may be - without having to adhere to a category.
I know we have Random Discussion but that seems more chit-chat, what you're doing day-to-day, getting to know you kind of thing.
Special interest threads tend to get lost in there.
Even a Special Interests sticky would be welcome.

Thank you so much for asking. Little moves sometimes make a big difference and are much appreciated. I would say a simply name change to "games and hobbies" that would invite a larger variety of pasttimes. But that gaming forum seems to be very active. Thus, I think it might be better to simply add another category for "crafts and hobbies." I do worry that I might be one of the few interested, but I also think I might be surprised by the result. It would just be a simple trial and error. If such a category did better than the least active topic after a month, then that would be a good start. Again, thanks for your attention to my post :) :) :)

no problem! 8)

i think that at this point most veteran members have found ways to fit all their "crafts and hobbies" discussion into the existing forums, with all the relevant longstanding threads and stickies there. it would be a different situation than if the site started with both, as opposed to adding one now.

for me the random discussion forum suffices, and i wonder if was intended to be inclusive of all interests. some people like cabbages, and i know some are interested in royalty (Kyle, looking at you).
i agree a special interests forum is a given on aspie sites but if we implemented a new one i think we'd see a significant amount of overlap between it and RD. :)

but yeah, i usually just post my stuff in the "display your artwork" thread and hope it fits.

the day to day, chatty threads do take precedence because they're a bit more broad. but yeah, even a sticky would be a great idea IMO. (we just need to get our ability to make stickies, back...)

Ugh. It sounds like it must be a bit of a headache to add a new topic. I was hoping it was as easy as editing a simple website.
I guess the underlying motivation for the craft and hobby topic was to separate it from random discussions that can get argumentative, and I try to skip over as many of those kinds of threads as possible. Even in PPR, I try to avoid the most argumentative threads unless they are such tasty morsels that I can’t refuse, lol. It would just be sooooo nice to open up a topic and see nothing but (or at least mostly) positive, happy, sharing, caring threads. Alas, I’ll try to get up the motivation to head into that god awful sounding random discussion topic….which in the past in other forums, I have found “random discussion” topics to be the most distasteful. Grrrrr.

^ I've always found Random Discussion to be quite friendly here :D

well, mods like i don't have tools to actually edit the site and add new topics. still the site runs on phpbb3, i think, so if we did it shouldn't be too much of a hassle. i too try to avoid PPR unless it's directly required of me as a mod, but compared to other sites it can seem rather tame.

from my perspective RD actually has had, at worst, just as much conflict and mod action as any other forum. and it doesn't get spammed nearly as regularly as GAD :)
