Segmentation into groups still sounds equalily bad to me. How about you describe these groups now? The pool of people on WP is not so large to permit much segmentation.

agreed, but there is already a degree of self-segmentation in the forum topics.

I don't go into kids crater or adolescent forum, rarely into TV etc, and I use the search feature to see where members I like are posting, so you could say I was a "stalker"

No wonder we're rarely on the same forum.

Yes, I know what you mean Juggernaut, also new members often feel that what they say is ignored which I think is a problem here at WP. I can't see a way around this really, as it seems that members naturally take more interest in people they have gotten to know, and it takes a while for others to get to know a new member. I think people often leave when they've not been here for long because they feel excluded, which is a great pity both for themselves and for WP.

I think segregation is a bad idea too, it usually results in cliques forming, even if it is an unintentional clique, and quieter members, plus 'non joiners', people who are not comfortable in groups (I include myself in this category) would feel even more excluded.

4) Discussion: here I am personally very interested, because of my experince and my lifelong devotion to the themes of the unease of life in its deepest and difficult implications. This unease may be dealt at some depth, sometimes with some unfortunate technicality, often with the help of essays and fiction. But here you have to make some separation between casual chat, which may also flow into discussion in depth (but not always does and often dies out fast) and some more determined effort to go deeper and with more continuity, running the risk to cut someone out, if only fo a while.

I would love to see a more 'in depth', slower-paced style area where subjects could be discussed more thoughtfully. This is something definitely lacking here, as threads 'disappear' so quickly. A place for 'existential' questions...would be wonderful! :) There are plenty of areas for 'play' here at WP. A lot of ASers naturally explore issues in depth anyway, so a place for more serious talk ~ not excluding any age group~ is definitely lacking!

(Yes, I know I'm taking a break and not really here, so why do I keep posting? ~ oh the compulsive attraction of WP! Starr goes to the shed to look for a big hammer to smash up the computer, lol.)

I find myself disagreeing with this. The topical areas tend to move MUCH slower than the more general ones. To the extent that threads stay on the front page for weeks at a time. Not sure how much more stability you would want.

It is not so much stability that I am concerned about although I think that might arise if these kind of discussions took place in the random or general autism forums. This is why I think there is a need for a designated area for such discussions.

I would also love to see an obsessions forum. This suggestion received a lot of support when I first brought it up a while back and I've not given up on it yet. I think it's worth another mention as we are talking about suggestions for making WP better. :)

I think WP need to start investing in a nuclear reactor to power its server.

I agree but not for the reasons you say. I think it is just the nature of people on the spectrum to be like that.

It takes a while to get to know others.

As an analogy, imaging being in a hall with a few hundred people at some function or other. It is natural for you to seek out those you know. I know I do. There are just too many members to know all of them, so I don't try anymore. Which is not to say I don't come to notice and like new people, but I admit I don't make any effort to. But I do like to respond to posts of those I know.

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't come here for in-depth discussions. I come here for wild, no-strings-attached posting sprees.

I post 'em and I leave 'em.

Well you have to remember a subset of the aspie community has very little interest in
humor. Their known as anti-Werbertist.
