Conservatives of Wrong Planet
As a straight white (I think) woman you have more rights than trans people. And again a trans women is a woman and deserves the same right to the woman's restroom as you do. No one is trying to tell you you can't use the bathroom you feel the most comfortable using but there are people telling that to trans people.
As far as I know, trans women have always been going in the women's bathroom. I just came concerned about the situation when I found out that heterosexual men could also go into the same bathroom that I do. That is NOT right - not unless I know about it before I make a decision to then enter that bathroom.
You're completely confusing this whole issue on so many levels. It is clear that you do not understand it at all just based on the terminology you use.
And one issue is that you refuse to believe is that you can't tell whether or not someone is trans so how do you suggest we enforce your ideal situation?
The only way to enforce your ideal situation would be to strip search you before you enter the bathroom to check if you're actually female and then interrogate you to try to determine if you're transgender but just pre-op.
Would you be comfortable living in a world where you had to strip search and be interrogated every time you used a restroom? Or would you be cool with people yelling at you telling you to get out of the bathroom because you look too manly even though you're a woman?

You don't have to be trans to believe in trans rights. Not everyone is just trying to do this under a guise. A lot of people genuinely believe what they post.
And I think your bias is leaving you a little short sighted. The left gets bashed and ridiculed all the time as well. I see posts all the time claiming the left are just a bunch of violent lunatics. Usually by a very specific set of posters.
And Angela I've actually never called you those things, you just inferred it.
In Angela's defense, she gets attacked constantly here in the nastiest ways. I was given a board warning for calling somebody a dodo which is hilarious in retrospect considering the vulgarity I've seen since. I think she probably should be less reactive, it's two way street obviously.
Debating transgenderism and their rights should not be considered hate speech or off limits, it should be readily discussed. I posted in that bathroom thread, was what I posted hate speech? I don't believe it was and I don't think anybody trans would consider it, there is a real problem with the social justice warrior mindset of taking the mantle of these out-groups and deciding what is offensive and what isn't. I really would like more examples.
I think too many people these day have far too thin of skin, it's usually not the actual members of the out-group because they face real discrimination which the outside observer(the social justice warrior) cannot ever experience so they see discrimination thru the lens of their own self hatred of themselves and the environment they came from while clinging to these antiquated and quite racist ideals of noble savagery thus the need to constantly to constantly attack and belittle those as a means of elevating themselves as moral superiors. Tit for tat should be expected when dealing with two sides so unbridgable.
Angela does a lot of the attacking.
And I don't know what you said in that thread.
This whole SJW thing is ridiculous. Yeah there are people who take these things to far, but most of them just stick to internet chatrooms and comment boards. You don't have to be a member of a group to defend their rights. If it wasn't for white people marching with Dr. King they wouldn't have had enough people to get civil rights. And if it wasn't for straight allies of the LGBT folks they still wouldn't have the right to marriage. Also this is an autism forum, many people here know what it's like to get bullied and be treated differently. Not to the same extent as the Trans people but enough to empathize and even feel offended.
I was just telling Angela that the honey approach is a lot more effective than trying to cage fight people but I understand her view that it doesn't really matter with the posters she responds to so her literal Trump cheerleading is just her trying to annoy those that try to troll her constantly. I've always noticed that people tend to avoid debating with me but will carry on with pointless bickering page after page after page. I like to think I write persuasively and that maybe somebody has read something I wrote and found some meaning in it, I hear people out when they are respectful but if somebody comes in right out the gate insulting you then you don't care to much about their argument and maybe dig your heels in deeper.
There is no 'right to not be offended' and trans people don't need you to fight their battles for them. You can have your opinion on the matter, it's another to actively attack the moral character of anybody that disagrees with you especially when you are the one doing the very offensive thing of using own voice to speak for them. I don't believe I said anything offensive about transgendered people but the discussion of the condition cannot be had at all now without people getting their feathers ruffled, I don't agree with much of the dogma being forced down our throats by these people and dogma is exactly what it is when it comes in such a black/white religious fervor.

If you think someone isn't going to defend themselves when they are being "attacked" on all sides and being called names then you are wrong. I am going to defend myself. I did not call one person in that thread anything offensive, but I had 5-6 people coming at me (including Alex) and that wasn't any party. It seems there are other people that do believe the same as me (just not on this site) or there wouldn't be such an uproar over the issue. People are too scared to really say what they want to say because they will get beaten down - just like I did. I guess beating people down is a great way to shut the topic down and to shut people up, isn't it?

Darn, I flunked.
I never said anything about what you said in that thread, like I said I don't remember your specific comments. And it's my prerogative to speak up for the rights of minorities, I don't have to be one to do it. And actually yes minority groups need members of the majority to speak out for them as well or else things will not change. Oh and all I've done I state my opinion.
Now you say it's offensive to speak for them? How, when I'm saying the same things they are? It's not speaking for them it's agreeing with them.
But if someone holds a bigoted viewpoint, I won't hesitate to call them out on it.
Angela,
You offend people on this forum constantly with your posts. You should be surprised when people lash out at you.
At all times, politics makes some people crazy. But at this point in history, there's no question that authoritarianism, bullying, abuse, and outright violence are far more common on the Left than anywhere else. And the watered-down versions of these things certainly appear here as well, primarily from people on the left.
As more and more leftist projects fail, "True Believer Syndrome" kicks in, and some people become ever more fanatical, as the followers of any religion can when prophecy fails:

And you know what? I think you specifically target me. Just like when Dox found you saying something to me but not Xeno in that one thread - why was that? You said that you couldn't keep up on everyone's post or something to that effect, but why not? You come at me every chance you get. And to date, I still haven't called you anything offensive, but you keep saying that I say "bigoted" remarks. I'm turning in everyone who says anything close to me being a "bigot" or a "racist". I used to let it go, but not anymore. Like it really matters anyway because they probably just get a little slap on the hand while people like Sly get the ax. If people are trying to drive decent people away, you're doing a great job. Bye bye Sly and bye bye Raptor. I don't even know why I come here because it's not like I fit in. I thought it was because Aspies are interesting and fun, but with the Conservative bashing and the NT bashing, who would actually want to put themselves through all that? It's no wonder why I've been depressed a lot lately. I know what Sly was talking about. This isn't a place to make friends, it's a place to come to after you've had a hard day and are pissed off and want to unload on someone. I can't think of one "happy" thread right now - it's not the political thread (definitely), the L&D has arguments and the women's forum has a bunch of problems. The health thread is safe and the Haven, but that is because the Haven is patrolled. What would probably stop all of the hostility is just to get rid of the political forum altogether. That's probably why AC doesn't have a political thread.
Well, that was my rant. Now, time for more homework.

There fixed it for you.
Hi Dox,
I'd like to agree with a lot of what you've written but unfortunately I'm equally guilty of attacking ideas or at the very least challenging them in some religious ideologies. I also do the same with the neoliberal and SJW movements.
I think that challenging ideas with other ideas encourages healthy debate. However, what we must not do though is attack the people behind those ideas which I think we can all agree is happening way too much in PPR right now. This is for many reasons, least of all that being Aspergers while many are bright they cannot always convey otherwise sensible positions on arguments in sensible ways. Furthermore, people can change and if we are so passionate as to encourage change in another person it cannot be done through the guerrilla methods we're seeing right now in that forum. It's becoming a playground with a lot of ad hominem, strawman political, sock puppets, emotional reasoning and not a place of rational thought and thought processing.
angela is not doing herself any favours, but neither are the people attacking her. I think her critics have found an "easy target" in her, and associate her persona with other people that share her views or lean in that direction in order to win their debates and that in itself is weak. I've seen similar things done to people more left leaning in American politics but I have only what's in front of me now to work with for the purpose of this post.
People that use that board, I suggest you consider what you will contribute to the discussions you post in rather than what you think or feel about the people or ideas in them. It prevents your post serving as a knee-jerk reaction and might create less conflict.

This is what I'm talking about. Instead of actually addressing the points people are making, the discussion devolves into personal attacks and unnecessary defensiveness. That's the problem. It has nothing to do with being conservative and everything to do with the combative way people are discussing things.

Pretty poignant point I think, that's why I think this forum needs more mediation rather the blunt edge moderation. This forum shouldn't be a hostile or unwelcoming place, it should be supportive, you'd hope everybody would have to maturity to talk about a number of topics civilly but obviously not everyone can. I wish people were more friendly and didn't take themselves so seriously. I think dedicated moderators to PPR/News and L&D would probably go a long ways in helping those forums.

We had those. Some were well balanced, and others were equally guilty of the same things being discussed here except having a kill switch to hand, which I put down to not enough emotional distance between moderators and members at the time. The mods are doing fine right now, and IMO having more wouldn't hurt but dedicating any one mod to a board creates bias over time as users try to get on the good side of board specific mods and encourage those mods to lose their impartiality.

Just quoting this so it doesn't get lost.
It just so happens that conservatives and Christians are the current favourite for people to bash due to political trends.
Give it a couple of years, conservatism will thrive and it'll be the other way around. There needs to be something done so it doesn't happen either way.
