Do not want to get caught up in this but I did want to say I think Calandale is the most reasonable moderator we have that is actively moderationing. I would say I'm more reasonable but I tend to put for less effort into the job like many of the other mods you never hear from

I don't want your **cough, cough** help Calendale. I bumped my thread so Alex could see it NOT YOU. You had no right to lock it. I wanted to make sure Alex see's it because now Bazza's Account has also been hacked. Right after he had that run in with you.

Coincidence, I am sure, but I am doing as much as I can. However, Alex isn't responding to anything. So your chances of getting this fixed are Buckley's. I'm sorry.

Since I don't care if I get banned I will risk all by telling some history. About a year ago, it was found that a certain administrator not only had access to all members' PM's, but was READING them.

There was a big to-do, almost all of the mods at the time either were banned because they dared to raise a fuss or left because they were so, well, righteously pissed.

The message is: send your email address to people you trust if you want to communicate privately, and don't believe the word "Private" in Private Message. It's not.

Also if your not using PGP to encrypt your e-mails consider them on several government databases as well

Whether or not it has happened to others is not important. It is a problem, and the only one that can take care of it needs to look into it. End of story. This is a website, it needs looking after. This is a serious problem, it needs to be addressed. If it can't be, there should be a real good excuse, like a death in the family. If that's the case, I can more than understand. Oddly enough, I remember seeing a (relatively) recent post from him, so he hasn't dropped off the face of the Earth.

Rather than referencing Amazon in a thread where others have responded, why not fix problems with the site?

Truth can be stranger than fiction. That's why at times I've addressed said administrator in PMs that were to others "just to say hi," since direct PMs seem to be ignored.

Aylissa: That is pretty disturbing. I'm surprised they were allowed full access. Some responsibility does lie on the admin imo. I think it is a good idea that there aren't any more admin for the time being.

Bizzare: if someone wanted to hack your pm they are going the wrong way about it. It is unlikely that that is the case. If they had access they would do much worse than just mess with one person pm's. The PM system is not a particularly sophisticated. It looks like it is a bug specific to phpBB. Google "65,535 new messages" Actually if is probably that it has mistakenly deleted from 0 messages as you would have -1 messages. But the counter is likely to be stored as an unsigned integer with a maximum of 16 bits so the count would default to 65,535. It is probably due to some bug in a mail filtering system if there is one. Or I'm not sure if it is possible to retract something you've sent. In any case I seriously doubt it is malicious.

You are probably a nice person and I can see you have your supporters so you are not unpopular either. But I think you could have been a little more tactful imho. If you didn't make such allegations and stir the s**t maybe alex would have taken you more seriously. After all he did post on that thread.

The failings of one individual should not be taken to guarantee failure in others. That, and if there are multiple, there can be checks and balances. I understand why some might want to avoid such a thing. Not that it couldn't be done away with in a moment's notice if it became "inconvenient" for some.

I'm not sure the moderators can actually keep an eye on what the other moderators are up to. It better that they don't take the decision lightly to appoint one. Common sense really.

I'm not talking about moderators. I'm talking about admins. Rather, admin. Only one has the power to read PMs.

Sorry go my wires crossed. I’ll talk in privileges ok. It is a very bad idea if more than one person has the global privilege.

And you feel confident trusting just one that has a less than flawless track record? I don't, but I doubt there's any helping that.

What do you mean flawless? Nobody is flawless. He was naive is in trusting people he didn't know. I guess so. It is not a crime though. Personally I would not advocated admins who can read my PMs.
