It was Graelwyn who complained to me about “do-nothing-mods,” after the fact. I believe you did the best you could with the instructions you were given.
Ah, but she was a special case. Even Alex made it
clear to us, at the end, that he saw the disagreements
with staff were to be more tolerated. Her position as
a moderator made everything far more complicated.

What I mean is that Alex has historically had much less patience for this sort of thing than I have had, i.e. I have historically demonstrated much more patience for this sort of thing than he has.
Ah. Not surprising. I do hope that now that both
you and he are actively trying to run the site again,
he is able to allow the freedom a chance to progress.
It was doing fairly well, except for a bit of exhuberance
on some people's parts. I think that cutting those threads
apart might have been the best solution, but I wasn't even
certain that there WAS a problem. Though, as I stated earlier,
it probably is more effective to add a public statement into one
of the posts, indicating the why of the cuts, even if not criticising.
It always gets asked anyway.

Btw, calandale, I try not to criticize when I don’t have an alternative to offer, like “Maybe you should offer an alternative with your criticism, instead of just the criticism.” Otherwise people are left to speculate, like “So I shouldn’t make people aware that Alex has historically demonstrated far less patience for this sort of thing than I have?”
Presuming, of course, that the statements I made
were not achieving the effect that I wish? Which is
a subtle reminder of what seemed to be the decision
at the time of my leaving. I can no longer put pressure
from inside, but a lighter touch out here should serve
just as well. Ah, I'm not being a pain for no reason -
I really do think that the site will run best in this manner.

If you feel that I have handled your complaint less than fairly, you may appeal to Alex. He has reversed decisions I have made in the past.
I didn't know that I had a complaint.
Oh oh.

As it should have been.
