moving the kids crater away from the adult discussion could reduce the number of children accidentally reading inappropriate material

I was hoping this thing wouldn't end up bigger than Ben Hur because it has probably caused the exact opposite of what was originally intended. I guess if some parents looked at the adult forum they could see for themselves if a fuss is warranted or not. It's not as if I am suggesting the adult forum should be got rid of.

I don't buy the argument that it would be unsettling to move the forum because people have eyes in their heads that they can use to READ the headings. In real life, things get moved all the time and far worse than just up or down in a small list so that's not a proper reason against moving the crater.

Well, the votes so far are 5 to 2, generally in favor of a minor shuffle. I'd have hoped that we'd get more votes either side, but I guess we can put them down to "no opinion".

I'll leave this for a week? then make a formal request to Alex. Does that sound ok?

Site discussions don't appear on the front by design. Posting off topic posts in the General Discussion forum is not appreciated as it just creates more clutter that doesn't belong in the general autism discussion forum.

I do understand that people don't want kids accidently reading adult discussion, but it's not possible because kids would have to put a birthdate in their profile that proves they're older than 17.

Am I for either approach? No. Yours may be good for blocking younger children who either can't count or aren't interested in sex, but not the ones who can count and would be interested. Maybe the adult forum should be hidden from view of those who set their birthdates too low, but you still should deal with the dishonesty factor otherwise it is the same as sanctioning it.

I think that in the computer world, you can pretty much agree that blocking things entirely is either impossible or causes undesired side-effects. There's a very fine line between security and usability.

There are two things to consider...

1. A minor shuffle of the sort order - this may accomplish nothing but then again it might reduce browsing for curiosity only.

2. RSS - If a child subscribes to the RSS feed of the site, they will get a lot of unexpected material.

I'm really confused by this, can you explain it differently. This post is in WrongPlanet.net discussion because I thought it was about the site... Did I put it in the wrong area? It didn't seem right to put it anywhere else.

Mr Mark said this sometime at the start of the thread and I assumed that I'd posted the thread in the wrong area and that he'd fixed it. Now you're saying it, so I get the feeling that whatever the problem is... it's still wrong.

Does it refer to yesterday's message? I didn't know if you read all the forums or not hence I sent it more directly - is that wrong?
