its different on this site. On myspace there wasn't autistic children to protect, that episode went on for a long while last night loads of people were complaining, but he posted the same picture about 20 times! I don't want power, and i'm not even talking aboout just me, but just making a few more regular members mods would surely do no harm. That guy will peobaly be back with 3 after his name.

I could have been a good mod several months ago but now I don't have much time since work has ramped up again...

I think the mods on WP do a brilliant job - especially given the amount of time such a job would take.

Do you realize what you just did!?!?!?!?! !?!?!?!?!? You just solved ALL the ills of mankind!! !! !!

We shouldn't employ ANYONE seeking employment in politics or religion, etc.... I wonder, does the POPE seek such appointment? 8O

Yes. Same with the president. We should totally hire the guy always around the White House but never running for president

I got a mod spot once by asking.

Don't see why it's some unwritten rule other places. If a few extras are needed and they just want to stop trolls (I notice this place is relatively lightly moderated, which I prefer) it might be a good idea to add a couple more hands to ensure there's always someone available.

where was you when that guy was posting crazy pictures on every thread and to kids also? :?

Asleep. I live in Australia. By the time I was on the computer, lau had done it about an hour ago. I cannot be on all the time.

I'm sure we will all be fine if none of us is made a mod. your first statement isn't logical, and your second simply shows why you NEED more moderators.

Exactly my point!

Keep on going with that attitude, and you lot will never become mods. As it is, I personally think you have Buckley's chance.

And you forget, we also have lives outside WP. We cannot have our eyes stuck to the computer screen all the time.

How many mods are there currently?

It's sometimes difficult to tell you apart, there's no indicator.

God, your like talking to a brick wall! I really am not that bothered about being a mod, I just wanna help. I won't be losing any sleep  You seem very immature for a moderator.

I won't keep repeating myself, I know you have lives, thats why the more trusted mods the better!

Someone made me a mod on a site about a Firefox extension I read every post for a while but I got tired of the extension and I no longer had a reason to be on the forum I do agree however that the best mods are those with
a vested interest in the community
regularly read every post anyway
have shown themselves to be honest and reliable in the past

I don't fit the second criterion I just glance at the RSS feed and look at stories that look interesting

Not really... mods often get given a pretty hard time if something like this happens, and people kinda beat up on them for not catching it fast enough, forgetting that they do have lives beyond whatever site it is and that although they do their best, they aren't superman.

Not saying that's what you're doing at all, just that it can be a touchy subject sometimes. I moderate another couple of websites and it does get a bit annoying after a while when every time a bit of spam is up for longer than 20mins there's a huge uproar about it. We're only human!

I think the mods on this site do a great job.

it took ages, the damage had already been done. People have left because of that situation. Thats what i'm saying, why can't there be more mods? I don't mean just me, anyone who feels they can help.

You really need to think before you speak.

I measured it as ninety minutes, from when Strapples correctly posted on the MODERATOR ATTENTION thread to when I had banned the two users and had deleted all instances of the image. If that is what you call "ages", I'd like to know what you would consider quick?

I've moved this thread, as I can see no reason for it to have been in the "General Autism Discussion" forum.

good for you. Wow you guys are really touchy! I think 90 mins is a long time actually, as I saw plenty of people complaining, if they could have acted as a mod, then surely things would have taken less time. Look i'm just making a suggestion, and going by what I saw, you mods really have to grow up and swallow your pride. Stop having a go at me, just cause I made a good point.

Do ppl actually realise the mods aren't being paid to do what they do? Stop being so hard on them.. they're using their spare time to moderate with no real credit, no "official" training, no certification, and no prospects. They do it because they enjoy doing it. When it becomes a grind or an issue, there's no point in doing it anymore.

Moderators enjoy providing a service and generally helping ppl out. If they slip up and get shouted at for it by those ppl they like to help, they're more likely to actively neglect them.

If it's hard for the average IRC chat server with maybe 100 channels averaging maybe 4 or 5 official rooms, with maybe a dozen mods per room at best, with around 1000 users, in real time, operating over a potentially global scale, where the average comment is a sentence (and it is, DONE it), then it's got to be even harder to keep track of a forum with HUNDREDS of rooms/channels/whatever, with upwards of 18000 ppl, it amazes me that the mods here manage to keep a lid on as much as they do!

Lots of ppl think they want to be a mod. Everybody who does it is as enthusiastic as hell at first. But slowly and surely that enthusiasm is ground away by the overwhelming and depressing knowledge that there are billions of cretins worldwide who far outnumber those with an ounce of common sense.

Like the Spartans at Thermopolae, mods are the valiant few who can only ever hope to stem the tide of idiocy for a little while. Eventually, we're all overwhelmed by the endless waves of unadulterated pillockry; a task made ever harder when even the "regular" users, who aren't flooding, or spamming, or -insert internet naughtiness term here-, are bitching at you because you're not doing your voluntary job well enough!! !
