The internet is about expression up to an extent. If you take your online persona to be your own and believe you are living in the "real" virtual world then you are in for a shock.

A safe place for women to be themselves doesn't mean a women only place. That would imply that being a woman is about being a segregationist, which isn't really fair on women who don't want to.

It does imply it. It would, shall we say, be polite not to post in the women's forum, 0_equals_true. Just because one can do something, doesn't necessarily mean one should. Therefore I don't post in the women's forum, or any other areas where the text seems to imply exclusion of adult males.

Well, sometimes life requires things that are exclusionary and discriminatory. Afterall, I assume you wouldn't walk into a public toilet that was designated for men. I really can't see why men should be posting in the women's forum anymore than adults should be posting in the kids' forum -- doesn't it defeat the purpose of specifically having a forum for each of those groups? As for the hypothetical situation where men making disparaging comments about women in a men's forum, people need to recognise that's just what men do when they get together.

Japan has many toilets that are unisex. So I fail to see your point. Except that men pee in open stalls with their genitalia quite visible which most women would not want to see. So in the case of toilets, your point is moot.

Over the internet you can't regulate gender. So in the case of banning sexes from forums... it just won't work. It still won't even work for the Adult forum, though I presume the age limitation os a precaution on the site creator's part then on actually keeping minors out.

I feel safe to be myself anywhere. I just presumed it indicates a forum with female dominated topics such as menstruation, etc. Which most people would not want discussed in the Adult forum. There are distinctly female and male topics that are just not appropriate for even a forum like the Adult forum.

From what I have heard it seems that a lot of the more sensitive women's only stuff is actually discussed in PM's or emails and the men's stuff can for the most part be discussed almost anywhere since it is so simple-minded in nature.

There did used to be a men's forum, I remember posting in it. Getting rid of it basically turned the adult forum into the men's forum and then they had to add the in depth adult life discussion forum after the maturity level of the adult forum went down. I thought it was a bad move to get rid of it in the first place but I don't think it would see much use if we brought it back.

I doubt they'll bring it back after deciding to get rid of it, anyway.

I know where you're coming from though.. I changed the name from Aspergersgirl to aspie paradise to try and avoid the confusion. I'm thinking of doing a complete style overhaul too.

I gotcha. But what Im getting at is since Asperger Syndrome occurs in BOTH sexes, if someone wants to discuss womens issues in a place where ONLY women are allowed(ditto for mens issues) then they should go find some other site to do it on.

aside from playing devil's advocate. I prefer the separation for topic purposes and not specifically for the removal of another group of people.

I don't really see any need for a mens forum.

Men can post anywhere if they are having problems and I value womens posts on issues. I do get annoyed with sexist women that say all men are this and that. Any women that calls themselves a feminist I tend to ignore because she will have some sort of proplem with men in general.

Because WP is mostly men WP is kind of a mens forum.

Is the overall consensus then to keep women bashing type stuff in the adult only section even if it concerns women, but not in the womens section and vice versa men bashing type stuff only in the womens section even if it is about men???
