It's frustrating to the point where I am really considering not posting. I spend time typing a response, then fill in the captcha and get returned to a blank reply box. It needs to go. You have enough moderators to delete spam bot posts before they clog up a forum.

In my case, it presents the captcha and when I enter the number/etters, it takes me back to the previous screen without posting my response and with my response no longer present. If I enter it again and try to post it, it just repeats.

I now know that when I see that damned captcha that I am not going to be able to post whatever I was trying to post.

I don't see much reason in continuing with this board.

^ Quotes, links, videos and images, paragraphs, taking 'too long', are all things that can trigger it. I always copy before I try to submit, that way it's just a matter of pasting it in until it's accepted.

It does seem to happen more often when quoting, especially with longer quotes.

Leaving out the quotes in many cases leaves people wondering just what the message is referring to.

But why do the captcha look like something a drunk would do with an Ouija board during an earthquake? On other sites one can at least read them.

On one post that it wouldn't let me post, I ended up breaking the post up into three different portions and posted them individually. All three partial posts went through.

Of course, having to do that is a pain in the ass to post and for someone reading them, it may not make sense if not reading the different posts and not realizing that they should all be the same post.

I tried to post something a minute ago with a link to another thread on wrongplanet.net. It wouldn't let me post it at all. Once I removed the link it let me repost the message.

Well how strange to come upon this because I just had to do two Captcha's before I could post in a couple of Music threads. Funny how it let me post a lot in Forum Games without any captha's at all!

I was wondering what was going on, but thankfully my last post I made in Music went through fine with no captcha requirement. I thought my IP address had been flagged...

The thing that sucks about these captchas is that when I enter one I swear the system that read it got it wrong, like if you're looking at house adresses takin on an angle it's treading the siding as forward/backslashes or certain other lines as open-brackets and all kinds of other things you'd never think to answer back with.

I did notice that they usually don't pass the first time and I have to circle back to my post, hit submit again, and hope I'm not dealing with hidden characters in the required answer again.

I can't fathom the logic that is being applied to whether or not the captcha is triggered.

Someone must have turned up the anti-spam to 11.

And the "how can i avoid this" text is just condescending. There is no malware on any of my computers.

It seems to me to be at least partially based on the size of a quote and maybe the size of a post.

The other day I had a large post that wouldn't go through at all so I split it into three portions and posted each portion separately. That worked quite well.

Also, it seems that once it hits the evil captcha, any and all additional attempts to edit the post to get past fail as well. I've had to copy my post to the clipboard, cancel the post, click REPLY again, paste the text, and then edit it.

I'm not convinced that there isn't also an aspect of the evil captcha regarding the size of the text entered compared to the time it took to enter the text.

^this is the case for me, except i haven't seen much of a correlation between captcha and post size, when it's all original content. quotes trigger is around 80% f the time.
