I would like to publically thank Amity, the real catalyst behind this thread, for her relentless work. She managed to get her message through where the rest of us have failed.
Also, Ferris, IsabellaLinton, magz, Temeraire, Feyokien, AuroraBorealisGazer, wolfram87, Teach 51, and everybody else who used this thread for its intended purpose or at least tried to lighten things up 
Please keep engaging Alex, I think that after the high emotions calm down a bit, he'll hear you out.
It's the end of the road for me, in the last year this place has turned into an anti-autistic community and I don't want to be part of it. The slim, against all reason, hope I still had to see the effort people put in here succeeding has been shattered last night when one of the moderators who actively contributed to creating and maintaining the current culture used this very thread to once again accuse and insult the membership with impunity. I lost any faith that regardless of who will join the team will be capable or allowed to bring change.
So I'll end with another public thank you here to all of you, past or present members, for your insight, wisdom, compassion, resilience and last but not least the sense of humour that often kept this place alive by the skin of its teeth.

the "new levels of understanding" from America are setting the World back decades and should be rejected wholesale. We don't want to bring segregation back, we don't want to have racial quotas, we don't want to have suffocating political correctness, enforced with an iron fist. We don't want to have a progressive stack where people are told to shut the f**k up or pushed to the back of the queue because they're the wrong race / sex / sexual orientation. We should be looking to the MLK model. The goal should be you look at a white person and a black person and it's akin to this:
You can see what colour they are, but it's not going to make one iota of difference in how you treat them. These cats probably have different personalities and over time you'd get to know them and that would influence how you treat them, but the colour would not. Race should be as unimportant as the colour of these cats.
Sly, it seems like a conclusion jump to think he's trying to equate the two things. I think he was trying to make a point, and shouldn't be castigated because his comparison was imperfect.

Lovely image! I don't follow specific political bandwagons either. I don't discriminate on the basis of race, religion, political persuasion, sexual orientation etc. Everyone should feel included here, and part of a family of autists, aspies and our friends/family who are NT. This is an opportunity to set things right. I am not taking sides except the one that is right - you can disagree but respectfully. When you get to know users as individuals, you begin understanding them so much better. PMs are a great way to do this. Public forums are the same as a big barbecue at the boss's house - can be pleasant, but you feel you've got to keep some decorum and it stresses you. But if you have a nice one on one conversation with someone you like, the party is more fun than that aimless hanging around we often exhibit in big groups.
