It would maybe be worth an experiment to try. My guess though is that if such threads were still located in PPR they would be abused. The atmosphere of the Members and Haven forums is different - it is more supportive than confrontational. I can also foresee that some people would create spoof threads in PPR with [SUPPORT THREAD] in the title further diluting its effectiveness as a distinction e.g. [SUPPORT THREAD] Jedi religion... Flying Spaghetti Monster ... Sky Fairy etc or maybe some extreme cults too just to add spice and stir the pot.

Making a single thread for Christianity, seems a fine idea, it seems that it would be similar to the "Dino Cafe" somehow, and I agree with the rules would be seen better if made by a mod, and explicitly prohibing the debating and mocking of their faith, although debating aspects inside their faith could be done I believe, such as denominations do on their own.

One problem I find though, is that that thread would likely increase the job of a moderator, which would have to be there constantly like a regular in the PPR, to watch over it, and probably to a point that it would be too much, as most likely those rules would be violated. So that is the downside of the idea.

I agree with the general sentiment that PPR is not the place for it. An attempt to limit the tone of the forum within particular threads is likely to cause too much work for a volunteer mod.

If there's a need for it, I suggest that Members Only is a better choice than The Haven to expand the scope to include supportive discussions of faith, race and sexuality.

I have been thinking about that kind of thing for a couple of days, and some of my own experience has come to mind: In certain A.A. meetings I have attended, so-called "crosstalk" is considered "cross talk" and specifically prohibited since it might upset someone to have his or her own view or opinion in any way challenged.

Fortunately for me, there was no such rule back in the '80s when I first got started or I would have been dead fairly soon.

Maybe people should post about their own personal beliefs in the 'Getting To Know You' section? You could even have a sticky for it to stop the thread from getting lost.

I don't post in PPR very much, but I've seen that once something gets posted there, it tends to be torn apart as if it were a matter of life or death. If it was just a more relaxed post to let people know more about who you are, it might attract a gentler response.
