Alex waited until Wrong Planet was dead to fix it.

Did they give up, or grow up?

I suppose there are some who feel that chronic daily server glitches and outages that lasted hours and went of for months, had no negative impact, but I don't see it that way.
Then, as I have suggested before, build your own website.

The "unless you can do better, don't complain" argument is bogus. Unless you yourself have applied such to anything you've ever been unhappy about. Like since you're unhappy about the president of the US, then go become president. Or go start your own county.

If I were neglecting the place, then I'd expect people to be unhappy about it.

how boring its members are

That's completely non sequitur. If I thought WP members were boring, I wouldn't be unhappy that many of them got so worn out with the incessant server glitches and outages, they gave up on the place.

Alex has a life outside of this website

I'm well aware that Alex seems to have priorities that supersede WP.

Maybe if you had one too, you would be a little more understanding of his situation.

So along with "unless you can do better, don't complain" you're also implementing "get a life". Pretty lame, Fnord.

I've always felt that gratitude is more appropriate to this situation. Alex doesn't need us. We're a by-blow of his high school summer vacation project. He could walk away. But he returns and maintains the site.

Even with glitches, this site has saved my life and given me some fun and made me some friends. I am grateful, regardless what the future holds. Give it some thought, please.

@Ezra -
You enjoy and prolong the trouble. Please give it a rest.

Actually I had a goal in mind. Which was trying to convey to Alex how invaluable this site is to many and that neglecting it is detrimental, and thus maybe motivate him to be a little more proactive. For some reason this has offended people and gotten them all upset with me. Which wasn't my intention.

I apologize for being bothered by the idea of this site going down the tubes. Apparently that makes me a bad person who enjoys causing trouble and needs to get a life and so on.

If I were Alex, I'd do exactly that: not bother to fix the site till I don't have to bother anymore. Why spend valuable time and resources on a problem when you can let it fix itself?

The ad hominem approach was unacceptable.

If this site is nothing but a burden to Alex, then he should just pull the plug on it.

Or better yet, turn over the controls to someone who would admin it for free.

It's not like he's stopping anyone from making a better site. If most users stay here, it's because they prefer Alex's site despite its shortcomings.

I got it from what spiderpig wrote. Using "if" as in hypothetically speaking.

This Site is a great resource. It should be given more TLC.

It was invaluable to me although that was down to the members.

One of my recommendations on my report was use the internet to find like minded people.

There was nothing ad hominem in my approach nor insults made towards Alex. You and Fnord in the process of accusing me of such were insulting and ad hominem, such as calling me a troublemaker and telling me I need to get a life etc.

Well, if the shoes fit, wear them!
