After Alex indicated that we had the right to unban members
(unilatterally - which I think was foolish, and hope that y'all
have resolved that; it does seem that it was heading in the
right direction), I offered to unban her temporarily, on her
assurance that she would not do any damage. AFAIK, she did
not respond. This was something she had asked earlier of me,
but I felt that it would have been against my position here.

Interesting. I don't remember many complaints being
addressed about us doing too little, and when they did,
we always had to note that those were Alex's instructions
to us. Perhaps we need an UNDERMODERATION thread
as well?

That sounds odd. because this play was always a pretty nice place, never really needed much moderation, never really felt I had to complain to anyone, then there started being oer moderation, people started retaliating, and it spun out of control.

Kinda like a little revolt we
threw against the Brits here,
a while ago. One enjoys the
taste of freedom.

But, Gestapo tactics can work,
if a society is not vigilant. Luckily,
the stakes aren't so high on the
internet, that one can't simply find
someplace freer.

Actually, it is irrelevant now what people like you think. I have my own life beyond this...place, lol.

Because, in my view, as expressed in many places,
mods have to be able to be criticized to a degree greater
than we could allow to normal members. Now, not only

Grael, I think you are a beautiful person.
I just don't think that you had the toughness
to handle the constant harassment the position
entails. Maybe my resignation is because of something
similar. It drained me - having to fight so damned hard
for what I thought was clear, and what I believed worked
best here. I just hope that it doesn't fall apart again.

I resent the reason given me by another 'mod' for not being a mod any longer.
But I always maintained, it really meant little to me in terms of a position.
Safer to view the net as something beyond real life...and its members as nothing more than names and typing on a computer screen, maybe.

I agree with ShadesofMe we didn't have these problems when members moderated themselves. We only need moderators to clean-up major spam attacks and leave it to Alex to decide who should or should not be banned.

It was andy1976uk. I looked for the thread, but apparently Alex removed it. It was one of those things along the lines of "Who thinks so-n-so should be banned?" He basically imploded. "Dyonisian dis-memberment," Starr called it.

andy1976uk got banned for going insane and spamming the forums with heaps of threads talking about how he hated people with asperger's. He kept posting a ton of threads which were pure spam.

i then gave him a second chance after he cooled down. Initially he started to behave, but then after less than a day of being unbanned and promising to keep cool, he did the exact same thing. He started spamming threads in a manner similar to atomika, but he said worse things than "SPAM SPAM SPAM"
