When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

I don't think there is a rigid cutoff point. Some threads are geared toward a long life, such as questionnaire threads. You should look at the aim of the original post. The main thing we'd like to avoid is the resurrection of discussion threads.

Also, it's not necroing until there has been a lengthy break without any posts at all.

Remember what Samuel L Jackson said in Pulp Fiction? "English m*****f*****, do-you-speak-it???" That is what I am thinking now.

Yeah. We like to keep old threads open if possible but in most cases it's preferable to start a new thread rather than necro an old one, because the aim of most threads is to have a discussion and that's impossible when the original participants are gone or have forgotten about the discussion. It causes all kinds of confusion because many posters do not check dates on the posts to which they're responding. Also, smaller discussions have the advantage of being more intimate and easier to follow.

But there's too many threads already and it is too hard to find threads when they turn over at such a fast rate. I would suggest archiving threads more than 12 months old and shunting them into a different area of the website.
