While, I don't consider myself an expert in computers, being a daily user of a home computer since 1983 and having spent a few years in the ISP industry has given me a fair amount of data to reference. There are multiple threads in this very subforum regarding the use of alternative browsers and plugins for those interested in finding solutions to their problems. If the person running the site is the one causing the issue, then I would agree that it would their responsibility. In this instance, the site is merely a conduit for the ads to the end-user. Would it be nice if Alex took a greater interest in resolving the problem? Absolutely - but since the problem still exists, one can either complain or do something about it... and I prefer the latter. As for contacting Alex, I understand the best option is the GoogleTalk phone link at the bottom of every WP page - just look for the icon. An instant message might also be a good method to attempt. You are correct in that there are no methods I have to reach Alex that assure me of any quicker response than what you might yourself receive if you contacted him directly. As for discussing issues, I don't think I've ever implied that you shouldn't bring them up or discuss them - but at the same time, you need to recognize that just being it is a priority to you does not necessarily translate to that being the case to another person. You ask for an avenue to reach resolution and contact Alex, which I provided - and now you're complaining that I'm telling you to dump your issues in the garbage chute? I'm confused how by explaining and being realistic with setting expectations with you that I am in any way discouraging your interest or attempts to reach him. I merely offered my opinion, not any official instruction on what you should or must do in order to reach Alex. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to send me a PM as well.

my initial impressions are that this is an issue that could be solved largely through use of a different browser or a plug-in or two and while there is a relationship to the site, that it is up to each of us using the site to protect ourselves instead of expecting another person to do so for us.

I agree and at risk of sounding like a broken record: I don't know why people simply don't use the Firefox browser. With the AdBlock Plus, NoScript and Flashblock plugins browsing is faster, much more secure and you don't get pestered by adverts. I've never even seen the advert/virus talked about in this thread, but then I haven't seen any adverts full stop since switching to Firefox a few years ago. Adverts never reach my screen.

I know how you feel, TallyMan. I have a cut and paste response for every "Has anyone ever had a crush/fell in love/etc." thread in the Love and Dating for the Limerence website on Wikipedia. You would think a group of people that loved logic and reason and scientific data would be glad to have a road map to the pheromones and endorphins that are bubbling away in their emotive zones, but I just sound like a broken record (or VINAL as I am told it is referred to now.) Most of them just can't be bothered.

Just figured out that if you are using IE or firefox, and if you have WP open in a second tab, if you get the advert you are able to close that tab without having to use ctrl+alt+del or close the browser or lossing all your tabs!
Much easier then having to use ctrl+alt+del

Thank you for the update, roadracer!

Furthermore, I would like to announce that the "virus" my friend got on his laptop (in the similar situation to League_Girl) is not a threat to his computer. This was confirmed. By the way, it was the same computer on which I got the pop-up.
