possibly. I certainly wont stay involved where I am undesired. i believe i have been assertive and i've pushed back a little, but i dont believe i have lost my temper. lau afterall, is still here and i can move on.

the haven is a protected forum. Random people from Facebook wouldn't be able to read the posts on it. . .

Are you sure? I can read the posts in Haven perfectly clearly when not signed in, and the like button is still there, signed in or not. I'm not going to click it just to see what happens, but how exactly can people from facebook not see the threads on the haven if a thread is 'liked' there?

perhaps we should remove the like button from the Haven. . .that would make sense to me.

Yeah, I think it would be a good idea to remove it from the Adult Issues forum as well. Some people wouldn't want their fetishes and such posted all over Facebook. Granted, it's best to post with caution but I know I have some things there that I wouldn't want everyone I know to see. :/

I don't have as much of a problem with the General Discussion forums (general discussion through to news and current events) having a 'like' button, but once it hits the Coping in Life section... the stuff there tends to be highly personal. I'm amazed at some of the details that people have posted here, but its because many trust this site and feel safe here. Opening the whole place up to facebook, symbolically if not literally, takes that privacy away and would only harm the morale and the purpose of this site.

Once wrongplanet just becomes another social website, what's to differentiate it from facebook in the first place?

perhaps we should take it off the forums as well. I will think about that because people do seem to have a problem with it.

Yeah, I think not having the button on all forums would be good. Even if people "liked" a game in the games section, it leads random people to come to WP and peruse the boards, and read about some girls PMS or menstrual cramps in the Womens Forum, or a guys sadness/suicidalness at being unable to get a date in Love and Dating......

or someone talking about their psychotic symptoms or mental hospital stay or shrink visits in the general boards.

There is pretty personal stuff all over the boards, and people basically come here to post such stuff as they have nowhere else to go:

shrinks charge $$$ per hour, and a good shrink who understands AS can be hard to find anyway. And sometimes a person's family or friends arent the best people to go to with problems too.

I think the Like button is a horrible idea. Like TOGGI3 pointed out, it's just toying with the members, both the long-term ones who made WP their online home, and the anxious newbies who are turning for help. Alex et al., the owners and operators of the site, are making a dangerous mistake with the Like button. Who uses Facebook the most? Popular NTs who enjoy being a bully! Who uses WP the most? Aspies and sympathetic NTs! What happens when you try to integrate the two? The worlds collide!

Basically, the Like button on WP is like a kiosk showing free pornographic videos in a church* basement. Yeah, it might attract extra members and give current members another reason to show up at services, but it destroys the whole point of a church. People come there to escape a sinful world and share the holiness among the community. Also, the new members might be violent kids off the street who will come only for the porn, and in the process, curse out church employees and intimidate people in the parking lot.

Similarly, can you imagine what might happen if a WP member clicks on the button with the best intentions, and it shows up on his Facebook profile? Then one of his high school bullies sees it, and publishes it on his profile. The hundreds of people on his friends list see it too, and next thing you know, the member's innermost thoughts are going all over his high school? At that point, only god (or lack thereof) knows what the member will do in reaction, and it's definitely nothing good.

Long story short, toss out the Like button like a used diaper that's been lying in the sun, and throw in into the netherworld of cyberspace where it belongs.

Here's another thought. I've read that employers might check out a potential candidate on FB, to see what they say about themselves. Could having links to WP act as informal, or premature, disclosure?

How can you tell someone has 'liked' it?

Perhaps it's necessary to actually be a FB member, or signed in to FB, to be able to do that, because I can't tell, so could not avoid liked threads.

like now that everyone knows about Alex's sister being Bi Polar because Alex mentioned it in another thread. I wondered about that, if someone has the privilege of telling others what someone's DX is to the world like that. I mean, when someone clicks on the 'like' button on that thread, then it would be quite easy to find out who his sister is and harassing her on FB or on her career path.

Personally, I don't have any issue with the like button but I actually quite like the idea of it.
Isn't there an option for members who doesn't want to have the like button to actually hide it or something?
