Would LOVE to kick whoever makes those damn things. Or just have a horse kick them, which would be better.

I LIKE your post!! :salut:

As far as I know, cloudflare prevents DDoS attacks but is rather poorly equipped regarding spambots.

Since the spammer made another account just today, I recommend to have someone check new accounts every two to three hours and keep an eye out of accounts with names that are keyboard mashed. It seems all the spam accounts are mashed names. Then maybe build a filter where specific patterns are recognized and blocked. If a used still wants to use a username of a specific pattern that is made up of random strings of consonants or possible vowel only strings, then by request a name change may happen.

That is my temporary solution idea until a long term solution is found.

It seems that about one-third to one-half of all the legitimate members of this website have "mashed names", so implementing your idea would immediately ban these members, as well.

Trust Alex, and be patient. Finding the cure needs to be done carefully, lest it proves to be worse than the disease.

This is all quite fascinating, sort of like an out of control electronic fire. I'm sure its not funny for the folk having to sort the problem out. Would like to help but sadly I have no clue in these matters.

Oh well, now that I've had my completely irrelevant comment I'll wander off ... :D

....so it's like I thought, then. Pretty much useless. Despite how freakishly obvious these spambots are getting.

Sigh...

i've made some changes to the site that should prevent these spammers. Hopefully we won't see them anymore.
