Overmoderation?

I dunno.. just a lot of people sticking up for spacecase.

Its a bit bloody sad that that got removed. Whoever did it should be de-modded.

Also, instead of resolving conflict here, a lot of you seem to think that good moderation is just covering it up. It's like adding a layer of cream to a bucket of sh*t. Its false, and wrong. Deleting conflict isn't going to make it go away.

Dammit! We've been specifically told not to post warnings or comments about such stuff. That's why you just end up seeing deletions. It's not all our choice here. I understand the frustration on your part, but we have it as well.

BTW - was their more than one post? I only saw one, and thought that it was begging for a reply. I was shocked to see it gone, as I didn't think that you'd removed it, and could think of no reason that anyone else would, but I barely remember it.

There was certainly more than one post.

At least 5 have gone, the mod that did it did a sloppy job though, there are bits and snaps from the conversations throughout the whole thread.

only spam / completely horrible posts should be deleted, and those shouldn't need an explanation. i saw a lot of posts by you in that thread, halebopp, but on the 2nd page.

Why does it matter if i'm horrible to a troll? He said something very hurtful and nasty to an innocent member. And the posts that got deleted were on the first page, by the way.

I would suspect that the only reason that things might have been deleted (looking back at it) was to try and stamp out the flame war that appears to have been underway. I don't know though. When something like this happens, it would be nice if some record were put into the mods forum, so that we understand what the purpose and intent of the deletions was.

The only thing mentioned there was the direct attack which started it all.

I have deleted posts from a banned troll, a person spamming a product, anti-Jewish poll, double/triple duplicate post when I see them. As far as micromanaging conflict I have done zero of that. Before Alex added any mods I was in the camp that said we did
not need anymore mods. You had a group of people complaining about the lack of mods
before and you have alot of the same faces complaining about the mods ounce we got them. I think the lesson that should be learned by Alex is its impossible to please everybody and he should carefully study the sites growth trend. The site grew alot with
little moderation. If things do not go well he should consider removing all the mods he
created after MrMark.

it's not easy to please everybody and I can only help with my two cents of knowledge and will NEVER moderate nor being SysOP again because I have other more important things to do.

But I can give a couple of words after 20+ years of BBS experience, Mailinglist maintenance and so on for people doing admin tasks.

First, note the single login poster in the forum you handle. First post is crucial, as it can start a thread. Thread started, check the thread for inappropriate material (which is a social skill and determination but use logic)

Second, keep a looksie on the nickname and personal info about him / her / that, especialy when first time posting a message. First timers can easily have registered a new nick.

Third, Don't be shy to PM people that normaly behave that they have misbehaved.

Fourth, Being a SysOP, moderator or a political leader of a country is all the same except that you have to be prepared to be able to explain why / when / who and so on, and preferably a faxed copy of your decision to the person in three ex with appropriate stamps.


Otherwise you do a wonderful job, the forums work well and not to many hole-in-one here.

I went to the cinema once with my CoSysop's to see the movie "sniper", the crappiest movie I've ever seen.

The morning after, my Amiga housing the BBS had a requester open with "Visst var filmen bra", they had simply started a Newshell with a changedir command "Don't you agree the movie was excelent" so I had about 100 requesters open and a seriously low amount of memory left. 'Miggys without MMU can't use swap. I don't care. I have 16+2MB memory in my 040 4000 and it boots from poweron in four seconds. With trapdoor loaded, Excelsior and everything else... Just for fun I'm going to stress the Miggy with 16 telnet lines for incoming traffic... Just a hackable AmiTCP stack and telser.device between stack exploit and r++t3d.
