Haven't lost any posts in limbo yet, I usually copy what I write because my internet is flaky anyways. Also I haven't had to do any captcha tests to get the post to go through, I just have to click "I'm not a robot" and that works.

But I've never had to deal with captcha stuff just to post a comment on any forum before. It's like we're considered spammers and have prove our honesty. I also wonder how effective this is, in contrast to the people that avoid posting due to the inconvenience of proving themselves.

It took 7 attempts and about 10 minutes to get the above post through, life is too short for Wrong Planet. I would prefer to edit to make it clearer but can't be bothered.

Lordy, that beats my worst experience with Capcha. When it happens to me I tend to just split my post into smaller chunks, and post them sequentially. Seems a fairly quick method - so far. Your post was pretty clear to me. And perhaps Alex's silence is more down to embarrassment than lack of caring. I hadn't thought of that possibility before.

I understand, I usually avoid quotes and keep posts short, if I bother to post.
I was CRAPTCHA'd 3 times, told "the site can't be reached" 3 times, then edited out the quotes, pressed submit to be told "another post had been submitted", and I was about to make a double post.

Yes I agree, at this point, any information from Alex would be very welcome.

Hmmm......I thought I'd pretty much sussed out what causes the Capcha Monster to strike - quoting, too many brackets, and making long posts, or any combination thereof. But after successfully dodging the beast in that way for a week or two, a post I made today did none of those things, yet the Monster jumped on me.
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=324149&p=7222200#p7222200
I had to split it into 3 to get it through - 2 wasn't enough - so although I can just about imagine the total length of the thing was a tad too much, splitting it into 2 ought to have worked fine, I'm sure I've made posts longer than that before and got away with it. Can anybody see anything else in there that might have provoked the beast?

Maybe it has to do with how many times you write a given word? I don't know, just a theory. I know I had trouble when I was trying to write a post about freedom and being free on another thread. I wonder if cloudcrap will take this post.

Let's see......
interest x2
empathy x3
alexithymia x3
That could be it. I usually try to avoid repeating words anyway, as I see it as bad style, but sometimes it's hard to avoid.

The following is an experiment:
interest interest
empathy empathy empathy
alexithymia alexithymia alexithymia
Fascinating.......repetition appears not to be a problem with short posts. I'll have to try a similar experiment with a longer post one day soon.

I agree the rules could use a rewrite in places, but I see that as a somewhat separate issue, and would prefer to see any complaint or poll focus on the CloudFront problem.

I used to call myself RoughDiamond on forums but I started using ToughDiamond because I kept finding the RoughDiamond name had already been taken.

If you want to prove yourself as worthy Rough Diamond, Tough Diamond, whoever you are, then ask Mr Plank in the nicest possible way, to Turn Cloudfare Off, and see what happens. Mind you, having done that, it could mean setting back the site even further with the outdated H.R that seems corrupt from a longer standing issue of non-empathic co-ordination and, should be behaving more like a forum, where people can discuss the things they want without being pursued in a demeaning way.

I don't especially want to prove myself "worthy," and judging by what I've read, it's probably already been tried to no avail, but I've just sent Mr. Plank the following message:

Cloudflare's capcha feature is making it difficult for many users (self included) to post. The puzzles are difficult to solve, and even when we manage to solve them it usually just presents another puzzle, and / or tends to delete part of the post. Here's one of a number of threads about it, which should give you an indication of the frustration it's causing:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=320329
Is there anything you can do to fix the problem, like turning it off or adjusting the controls?

Here's hoping it won't just make me look like I have a penchant for doing futile work and banging my head against a brick wall.

Well, Al was thirty last month, maybe you can explain your particular experiment in earlier posts as they look cohesive with a brand you're trying to align with? I wonder how my username gets muddled up in your thinking? I think if your fuse got any shorter, you should file for a divorce craptcha, but it sounds like its been the other way around. This site has been opposing jargon for some time, and the one thing that moderators tried to do in the past and failed on doing, was scapegoating others to enjoy the hellfire spread around them like enemy wings on a turtle dove. This is just one theory, but if you test all the others, you might face premature ageing.

Alex has obviously done all this for more than one reason and its not spam. It's so newbies can't get unnecessary thread treatment being put on them because they've not been around since the Babysitters club began.. or when the first sightings of crop circles were collected for research.

Empathy, I think I understood most of your post. We all want a Cloudcrap divorce LOL. I don't understand the part about the newbies or the crop circles though.

I'm afraid I hardly understood any of it. Could it be rephrased less cryptically please?

A newbie is often double craptched, I haven't really got the negative energy to bathe more veteran salt into cast iron wounds. Maybe another reason Alex didn't respond to pensionless doubters is because he can't see any bright or normal future for them. I personally think there needs to be a reduction, then younger adults can thrive with lasting hope in the community. He said he wanted more positivity, I don't think that mentioned elderly forum abuse.

Is there another web forum that the administrator can recommend, if they are no longer capable of ensuring a properly running bulletin board? They could archive the board and give a link to a new one.

I doubt the "administrator" will recommend an alternative website. That would be like the Coca Cola company advertising Pepsi. There is a forum called Right Planet, although it's rather small compared with WP and at first glance I found the text a little more difficult to read, on my browser at least. It purports to have no CloudFront stuff. Unfortunately when I tried to create an account there, I had to solve a puzzle to prove I was human, and for some reason it proved impossible to get the account up and running, so I can't post there yet. I expect the puzzle is just a one-time thing that doesn't come up when a member with an account tries to post, and I think the difficulties I'm getting with account creation are likely to do with my old operating system (Windows XP) and/or my Firefox browser with NoScript. Clearly some people have managed to create accounts. Here's the link for anybody who wants to try it:

http://rightplanet.proboards.com/

If anybody knows of other alternatives to WP, this thread might be a good place to post about them.

if you experience issues with cloudflare captchas you can always click back and resubmit. Usually it works the second time. I rarely experience captchas. they're usually served if your post has something that triggers the anti-spam filter.
