Alex waited until Wrong Planet was dead to fix it.

Well this thread has become an off topic mess.

Ezra if I recall correctly you moved to aspiescentral for a while, maybe having that comparison gave you a different perspective.

Thing is... having a more involved administrator could reduce the freedoms of expression allowed on WP.

The freedom of expression is amazingly refreshing on WP. I've never joined an ASD related forum before and I'm new to WP.

I've only dabbled in other forums and was only a regular on one other non-ASD forum in which I was a senior member and had many thousands of posts over nearly a decade. The only reason I bring this up is that that forum censored civic discourse related to religion, politics, abortion, gun control severely. After the 2016 election it got to the point that it felt like adults were sitting in a patty-cake circle at preschool with topic and discussion limitations. Pablum. I left the site.

During some of the member arguments about censorship on the forum I think we were all given a reality check: We were reminded that the site was NOT a public square and we were reminded that the site was wholly owned by an individual and that we therefore had no ownership or rights to the forum or control over how it was administered. We were allowed to be there because the owner allowed us to be there and play by his rules, period. That reality check didn't sit well with many, or me at first. I did understand after brief contemplation that it was a fact and I could like it or leave it.

Yes it has thanks to our buddy Fnord.

I've been an aspie central member for years. It pretty much compares functionally to about every other forum I've been on. Even ones run by teenagers.

The mods here are involved enough. But the problem is they have zero access to fix anything on an admin level. So all they can do is plead.

I do feel that it is of the utmost importance to ensure that the Site doesn't go down during crucial moments---such as when a WP member has been able tor reach a person who is despairing enough to attempt to take his/her own life.

I feel that WP is a "support site," though it's not formally a "support site."

I think it's important for autistic friendly places that alternative views can be expressed, our brains are wired differently and most spaces are NT friendly... this is somewhere that I can speak freely, without conforming or having to deal with the social repercussions of being different.
it's why I like it here, there aren't too many PC police.

Tallyman and Cornflake seem to have had some sort of 'admin' status as well as being mods. I was new to the site at the time and can't remember how their roles differed from those of the current mods, who do not seem to have that enhanced status. Was the designation purely decorative?

Alex must be doing something right if you’re still here?

^they were admins, and looking at old posts and logs of theirs it looks like they had privileges the current mods done. but, i'm not sure how much that has to do with admin status vs the different site software we had when they were active.

Agreed, otherwise you can have a situation where Aspies are censored for acting like....Aspies. The other extreme though would be to end up like a site such as INTENSITY², and I can't see how anyone in their right mind would want that.

I don't mind Fnord, where there is freedom of expression there will always be someone to taunt you though, sometimes it's best ignored.

AC is more restricted in its topics though, it might work well but I couldn't connect with their themes.

I've said it before many times, i couldn't do the mods job, I think anyone who volunteers their time should be encouraged to stay, instead of making the role impossible at times.

When complacency exists history does tend to repeat itself.

I agree completely, the reality is that we tend to be isolated and online conversations with people who 'get it' are at times a lifeline. The site may not have been intended as a traditional support site, but there is a culture of support among the members here that I have not found anywhere else.

Yes they did have some. But I know Tallyman and probably Cornflake quit in frustration over Alex dragging his heels. Tallyman obviously didn't have the tools that were needed to fix the site. Eventually a piecemeal revamp was performed, that pretty much just kept the site from totally collapsing.

Now I'm not saying Alex is a terrible person or anything of the sort. I do like and respect him. But he hasn't seemed particularly proactive in the 5 years I've been here. Which is all I've really been saying. Which hardly qualifies as an attack.

I'm here because of the userbase. What's left of it that is.

Me too. I wasn’t glad of website errors, but they were low on my list of problems.

Interesting posts by Tallyman on this page (Sept 2014):

Looks as if he was a bit premature....
