I vote against that. The avatar size seems pretty good to me. I find sites that allow huge avatars to be fairly content-free. Also, avatars take space on the server. An average member probably posts less in messages than they get space for their avatar, already.

i vote for... id like to have 200KB limit instead of 16KB... i could barely get my avatar to work with 16KB limit!

I would agree with Strapples here. Often when I upload an Avatar (especially ones which involve transparency) the filesize is too big, even in PNG. JPEG as far as I know doesn't support transparency, so I'm stuck with having to guesstimate the size I need to shrink it too, taking up a bit more time than I'd like. GIF, PNG and JPEG Avatars are logical so we have small, transparent and animated Avatars, however the size should have to compensate for the largest file size possible out of all 3, so that we get no hassles.

I don't know if the size restriction is due to memory on the server, or whatever keeps our Avatar files.

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

There are minor hiccups.

What you quote above is what you see on the initial profile page. When you actually go to upload the avatar, that page shows 16Kb.

On the first page, I'd guess that the figure shown is actually a double mistake. It looks as if someone calculated it there thinking to show it in KiB (kibibytes, which would be multiples of 1,024), and has divided the number recorded in the database (16,000) by 1,014 (a mistype for 1,024).

spell check is built into every computer in the world, not really necessary as a server end thingy is it?

multiquote, what do you mean by multiquote? the ability to quote multiple posts at once, if so then YES i want it!! !

yes I have it in my forum but my forum uses different software (I have a simplemachines forum)

and yes thats what I mean you can now but its copying and pasting code and it would be much easier if it was an option

I'd have to get back to you on the specifics but I added a php script because my hosting didn't allow another way of allowing it because the other way requires them to turn it on and upload it themselves.

Another non priority one. Smilies in code tags shouldn't appear.

Like so:

However:

Code:
8O&fsfsd 8O dfsef

IT think 8O is a controversial bbs code because it cause problems on many forums, when it was not intended to be typed. Sure it does depend on what character comes before and after it but still. It is already has a pseudonym of  so you can remove the 8O entry.

I know some forums have code buttons like the quote feature maybe that would alleviate that issue

On the Insomniac Forums, you can quickly quote something in the History of the Thread by clicking Add Quote. Handy for qouting several people, I can tell you. Or yourself if you have Multiple Personality Disorder/Syndrome/whatever.

Seconded.

Thirded

I really wish this would be implemented. It seems that many people don't think of underlined text as a link if the color of it isn't different from the rest of the text. I include links and people still say that they don't see the link.

Another thing
I'd really like
to have
on WP is,
when people
post enormously wide
images, the width
of it only effects
their own post.
I'm sure I'm not
the only one
who hates to
have to scroll
horizontally in
order to read
a post.
If that
problem
could be
eliminated
I wouldn't
have to
format my
posts
like this
when
someone
decides
to go ape
with their
images.

Uggg. Please, no animated avatars (or anything else animated). I have my own computer set to not play animations, but public internet computers usually aren't, in which case it's very hard for me to read at the same time something on the page is moving or blinking.

I find it easy to just type in the "code". It's not really any more involved than knowing how to make something bold or itallics. To quote your message, I merely had to add quote="Strapples" within brackets at the begiinning of pasted text then add /quote within brackets at the end of it. You can do a lot once you know how the brackets work.

Multi quote is a great feature invision boards have. You have a speach bubble icon with a plus sign in it next to each post on a page and you just click on the ones that you want to quote.

But the brilliant brain wave is snapback, which works with mulitiquote. The quotes have a little snapback icon, that if you click on it will take you to where the quote was taken form or at least claims to be taken from. That way you can verify it is genuine, all it is just a simple anchor. There is also more information includes such a as the datetime it was quoted.

I wonder if phpbb has a multiquote and snapback addin around if not I might do one.

The multiquote idea sounds nice, even though it's pretty trivial to do by hand, but I'd think it was pretty awkward to do in practice, here, at present.

With phpBB3, while entering a post, each post on the list of prior messages on a thread does have a "Quote" button that immediately embeds that post, quoted, into the message. Unfortunately phpBB3 is still at RC7.

The snapback, by comparison, is pretty trivial, but of such limited usefulness that I can hardly see the point. Just because you CAN implement a feature easily, it doesn't mean you SHOULD do so.

However... here's a facility that is available, that I'd really, REALLY, REALLY like:

http://www.phpbb.com/mods/db/index.php?i=misc&mode=display&contrib_id=705

phpBB 2.0.19 wrote:
Remove quotes from Search Results

Search by post results include a the first few characters of each post by default. However in may cases that consists of a significant amount of quoted text, so you don't get to preview the actual post text. This MOD removes any quoted text from the search results, giving you a better post preview.

I find the search results to be hugely misleading, at times. I think it was just yesterday that I managed to sort out a major misapprehension. User abcd had quoted another user who was saying something like "I am really wxyz". It appeared that abcd was saying that they had a second account on WP, which is against the rules. It is misleading to see one person's words "put in the mouth of" another.

PS. Incidentally, the colour change, etc., above - I did that with "BBCodeXtra" which is a neat little extension for Seamonkey and Firefox. Just highlight, right click and select...

I found it really useful. When you are looking a quote, which is often cut down and want to go back to the original quote it is really convenient. Instead of having to read through a who load of posts you get there straight away. It might not be on the same page.
