The two aren't remotely comparable. These words don't physically harm people, while smoking does.

This is more akin to saying "you can cook in my kitchen, but you can't use any eggs".

Some people are averse to words; they can cut and hurt as deeply as any knife. That you continue to argue this without direct point or acknowledgment brings the question as to why it is even an issue at all. You don't need profanity to express yourself; there are times when it makes a more salient point, makes a stronger impact - but that doesn't mean it is the only way to say something. There is always a thesaurus if need demands it.

But why choose a word other than the word you intend upon?

We can't be expected to censor ourselves to meet with the arbitrary values of other people, especially when those values are largely unknown. We can't walk on eggshells thinking that anything we do could offend someone.

Then your choice is clear - you need another venue for your voice. If you cannot or choose not to speak for the benefit of your audience and seek your own instead, then that is your right. In a public space, speak as you wish. In fact, speak as you wish here - but know the consequences of your actions. Profanity does not equate to offense, but for the comfort of those whose children are here and to provide a safe place for those who it might offend, the rules are clear. Not here.

I know of no laws restricting the access of children to the Internet, some sites you have to claim to be 18, but that is a warning of local content. It is the site that is restricted.

The laws regarding children, under thirteen, regard gathering information about them, for any reason.

So this is a gathering of children, six is the youngest I have met, and most agree the potty mouth little brats get enough of that in First Grade and on South Park.

Then there is the point that as the largest community of ASDs, being civil and intelligent helps our overall public image.

The reality of our lives differs greatly from the traditional public perception.

Wrong Planet is a community for Autism and Asperger's, we have community standards, they are low, but we do have them.

My question would be, how does what you propose further the interests of the community?

You think not?

It sounds to me, that you think that other rule should not be argued with because you would agree with it.

The point is: does not Alex have the right to set rules for proper behavior on his site?

He does, but that doesn't make them any less stupid. Verbal bigotry is a creation of the NT world, and we have the ability to rise above such primitive limitations on rational thinking.

It has nothing to do with eggs or smoke. It has to do with the fact that you've been asked not to do that here. This is a free service offered "as is." You're free to use it if you wish.

What if we put it this way: "Please don't piss on my (Alex's) lawn."

if you read the rules and terms of service, you, too, can exist pleasantly here as hundreds of other Autistic and Asperger's Syndrome and NT folks do hundreds of times every day.

or you may move on to places that more suit your taste.

To continue your insistence is starting to be viewed as posting derogatory messages about sensitive subjects on newsgroups and chat rooms to bait users into responding.

Because you have been asked to do so.

Yes you can, because those other people are the ones who provide this forum. Basically, you play by their rules or you go somewhere else. And those values are not "largely unknown" they are clearly posted in the rules.

Actually, a better analogy might well be my coming into your home, then plastering your living-room walls with pictures of people having sex with farm animals, and trying to persuade you to masturbate to them.

It's not physically harming you, after all...

BlackjackGabbiani, Will you please just GET OVER YOURSELF!

You can keep whining and crying because you can't use your limited vocabulary on this website, you can take your foul-mouthed attitude to another website, or you can simply conform like the rest of us and just DEAL WITH IT!

I was in the Navy, kid. And there I learned how to express myself more fully and completely than you ever will, and without using a single profane word. That any contemptible wretch can spew their fecal vocabulary at will serves only to reveal their utter lack of talent and command of language. Profanity is a worthless blight on communication, and those who can not get by without it are condemned to wallow in their own filth, which they vomit forth at every opportunity to remind the rest of us just how far we've risen above the primordial slime. Any beer-swilling, chain-smoking, unemployed lager lout can use four-letter words to describe the contents of a septic tank, yet there exist a few social misfits whose pride revolves around their intimate knowledge with the same effluvial matter and their familial relations thereto.

Anyway, that's just my opinion ...

where does what end? Good taste? Appropriate behaviour? Evidently with you. Why shouldn't children have some sort of yardstick by which to measure how they will act when confronted by the world? Just what are they missing by not hearing music with profanity in it?

well, to some degree he has a point, it can be argued that words are just words, and the intention is what really matters, and, "protecting" children from profanity can be debated as well, as it seems to come mostly from traditional social norms, given certain cultures, as an example we have Spain, inside that culture, people swear a lot, children use profanity and it is considered normal there, anyone can even see a lot on that on spaniard TV, and it doesn't seem to cause some sort of social disorder in that society, rather, youth on USA seem to have more problems on that issue, but that's my personal observation.

Actually, he can use his vocabulary here, no one is actually forbiding him to do that, the only thing is that they are censored with the '*' characters, so from my perspective, complaining about it, seems pointless.

Okay, I'll agree with that.

I just wish people would not complain when others would rather not hear or see profanity in the first place.

No, a better analogy would be if you have banned the words bacon, shoe, and stapler in your house. You are within your rights, but you're still an idiot.
