Let me ask you all this. How has Wrongplanet helped to improve our lives and make us better people? Has any of our activism and Neurodiversity gotten employers and society as a whole to budge on anything? How has both WP and ND made us employable or able to run a business, made us dateable, made others want to be friends with us and made us better overall human beings while being ourselves?
Since we're putting WP on the table then let's bring in ND as well. How has any of the things WP has done and ND has done made things better for spectrumites as a whole? Are more people who are on the spectrum employed and what is the ratio of those employed now vs 1 year ago? 5 years ago? 10 years ago? Or 20 years ago?
What has Alex Plank and Wrongplanet done for us? And, why is he absent for the most part? Why hasn't he taken a more active role in all of this? What has Ari Ne'eman and ASAN done for us? What has Neurodiversity done for us?
If WP is to be better and to serve our interests then a. What are our interests exactly as a community? and b. How has all of these Autism orgs served our interests? Either make them fit our interests or cut em loose.
And, what has been done IRL exactly outside of online forums and blogs?
Think through all of this and we're on our way to fixing WP which I think is declining.
As for WP I view it as a hybrid social club and support group. While Autism Politics is discussed WP is not political advocacy group. Alex Plank helped create the character Sonya Cross on the show ‘The Bridge’. The help WP provides for some members are more personal with issues such as self esteem and self understanding and gaining some experience with social skills.
As for ND as a whole I do not think we have enough valid information to see how employment has improved or declined. Some companies are now specifically looking for autistic employees. I joined this sight in 2013 although still too stereotyped autistic representation is not nearly as bad now.
