I've noticed the same during rare outbursts of activity.

I'm getting it too, but I just assumed it was due to my logging on through a wifi connection this week instead of my regular dialup.

I've just woken up and see the captcha problem still hasn't been fixed. Hit me with my first post. Bugger this, I'm off elsewhere, better things to do with my time than fill in captchas all day...

This seems to be true, at least to some extent - both frequency of posts and frequency of previewing.
A few times I've been distracted when replying to a PM and typing/previewing activity stops for a while - and in some cases, when I resume activity, I can preview without challenges for a short time.
Likewise, I've seen a report from one member saying he is not affected - but his posting activity was also quite sparse. There are other, similar reports from members who have also been posting infrequently

Frequency of posting can be a likely indicator of a spammer in action, attempting to flood a site with posts, so this is an activity where a challenge might be usefully issued. The site already has a flood-post limiting mechanism built in, but from past experience with spammers here that's not enough to deal with robot posters.
It appears that preview and submit are treated as "attempting to make content appear on WP" so an unrealistic assessment of posting activity is being made and challenges ramped up as a result. If this is what is happening, then clearly this mechanism is somewhat hyperactive and out of control at the moment.
And yet, TallyMan was challenged on his first post...

(I was challenged on every preview of this post and I'm sure I'll be challenged on submit too, but my first few posts of the day were not challenged)

Can't say I've been affected by this... yet. Hope I'm not. I hate Captchas with a passion. Half the time you can't even read what the word is!

The captcha problem is still with us.

I am beginning to treat them like a puzzle. Trying to put a positive face on an annoying problem.

^ Yes, that's working for me... a bit. :x
They are case-insensitive though, which at least helps with some of the enforced keyboard activity.

Now, it's happened for the first time here, and it occurred when I started my fourth line in reply to a quote.

It's crazy - I've had it start because I'd quoted the "What can I do to prevent this in the future?" message it displays, and the challenges stopped when I replaced the quoted text with "Now is the time for all good men".
(but since that wasn't what I was talking about I had to restore the quote and get nagged for doing so)

It may be frequency and other trigger words too, not surprising for an Autism site.

I seem to get more captchas when my posting frequency increases but I was also challenged on my first few posts this morning too.

I have over 200 posts. Between the zillion ads that load up, and the captcha hot mess, this site is bordering on not worth it. Make a threshold after a certain number of posts, the captchas go away.

I don't care if Alex is frolicking with faires and gnomes. FIX THIS s**t. Many people have day jobs, run blogs and forums. If it is too much work, pay someone. Beg someone. More the board to another site.

I have friends run forums. It is a PITA. But everyday you make it an abortion to POST, that is one less person that will come by. One less people you can count for pimping ad revenue.

Spammers are part of the territory. Other equally big deal boards handle it without all the drama.

--->I only mention the ads, because some of the folks I've recommended to come here, will not any more due to the "twinky winky" crash their computer ads. I have no issues with the ads. The captchas, I do, and they do drive people away. Not everyone understands what a captcha is. Those folks panic and never come back.

On most sites I've been there's a verification process when you create your account. Never have I heard of this kind of "random" (read every 2 seconds) captcha that wouldn't just pester the regular poster but would even prevent the mods and admin from doing their jobs 8O Still can't wrap my mind around it, it's like self sabotage

Have been having a lot of errors, like "no post mode specified" and "failed to obtain topic watch information", after filling in captchas.

I got one about an hour or so ago while trying to quote someone. It kept giving me a "no post mode specified" after completing it. I logged out and back in and still got the captcha but then it posted my post afterwards that time.

I can't get my head around it either; it is completely barking crazy stopping me (an admin) from deleting spammers accounts until I type in a captcha. Who's friggin side is it on? I'm spending a lot less time on here doing mod and admin work as a result of the hindrance and posting less too.

Right... must be time for yet another effing captcha challenge...

(Edit: I wasn't wrong. Wonder if I'll get another for doing this edit?)

(Edit 2: Yes I did. This is absolutely f*****g ridiculous).

(Edit 3: Yet another captcha with that edit too. The site can go screw itself soon, I'm sick of it.)
