The mods here are involved enough. But the problem is they have zero access to fix anything on an admin level. So all they can do is plead.

Tallyman and Cornflake seem to have had some sort of 'admin' status as well as being mods. I was new to the site at the time and can't remember how their roles differed from those of the current mods, who do not seem to have that enhanced status. Was the designation purely decorative?

Yes they did have some. But I know Tallyman and probably Cornflake quit in frustration over Alex dragging his heels. Tallyman obviously didn't have the tools that were needed to fix the site. Eventually a piecemeal revamp was performed, that pretty much just kept the site from totally collapsing.

Now I'm not saying Alex is a terrible person or anything of the sort. I do like and respect him. But he hasn't seemed particularly proactive in the 5 years I've been here. Which is all I've really been saying. Which hardly qualifies as an attack.

Tallyman gives his reason for leaving in this thread:

I don't recall that post. Just general comments he was making because they resonated. I was on the verge of quitting too. I do remember him talking about how the site was on the verge of collapse and eventually we got a revamp that changed on the old "blue green" format some. Really Cloudflare has been the main consistent complaint all these years. It's like Alex signed a lifelong binding contract with them.

Yep....that was the crux of it.

I, myself, find it EXTREMELY irritating when I feel like I've written something decent----and that gets locked out because I'm "thrown off," or I have to sign on again.

I've learned to get around some of these problems----but they are still IRRITATING, nevertheless.

And those 11:50 PM lockouts!! !! !! !!

A new version of the site software is currently being developed. The mods have been given the opportunity to test the new version of the site. It looks like it is nearing completion. I don't know when it will go live though. It should mean the end to all the endless bugs and error messages and timeouts.

Yeah welp for nearly 4 years that hasn't seemed to be the case. Or actually maybe it was initially, but that obviously didn't continue. That's really my main concern. That like before what ended up as a temporary patch, that took forever, is going to happen again and we will be right back to square one once again.

Oh thank goodness that's not happening anymore. At least so far...

WP is dead lately. The GAD hardly has any new threads any more, same goes for random discussion, social skills discussion, finding a job discussion and women's discussion. All the other topics I don't visit that much, and the PPR is full of threads about Donald Trump, and television and film discussion mostly has threads about Star Wars or Doctor Who, which I have no interest in. But lately I have been so bored with seeing the same old stuff on the usual topics I visit, that I've been visiting topics I don't normally visit, just to get out of the monotony.

Well I'm doing the best I can but will try harder to fix things. Soon, I will be investing a lot in totally revamping the site but it's contingent on some other things I'm working on being successful.

Maybe I should create a donation drive so I can actually afford to implement new features.

Thanks for talking to us, Alex.

The donation drive idea really makes a lot of sense.

As long as people don't lay a guilt trip on people who really can't give.

Does the donation drive mean paying online? I don't do payments online because I don't have an online money account and I don't wish to have one.

Thank you so much for responding Alex. I'm sorry if I offended you in any way. It's just that I really love WP and don't want to see it wither away.

Personally some big revamp with bells and whistles doesn't interest me. And from what I've read others don't seem all that interested in such either.

What I've seen asked for the most is just smooth operation, like it's operating now.

https and whatever other general safety/security features.

And something else besides Cloudfair, which most everyone has always hated.

If these 'New Features' can crack and kill all remaining add ons permanently, I'd suggest a twin site but with a paypal fearure, that way all old users can remain the same forum thoroughbreds and brand spanking new ones can inject some kindness, compassion and hospitality into it, via a Paypal function, which maybe gives access to a private Alex email. Not a pm which anyone can read.
The tell tale signs of cloudfare abuse by unwittingly reading anyone's account are offhand to see, release a new improved security with bot spellchecker maybe for upgraded users, (as some peoples keyboards are dysfunctional) would improve overall safety features and enhance future reading.

I know we have our communication difficulties that is why a lot of us are here but I would advise keeping us more regularly informed of developments good or bad as much as you can. There are a lot of members with programming knowledge that would be willing to assist you because they appreciate that this site is an island of civility and thinking in a rude and off the cuff internet world.

Maybe EzraS would be willing to pony up a few thousand, since he's so interested in how this website is being run...

Would you explain why you're making yourself look like a jerk? I honestly don't understand why people strive to be considered as such and why you've built yourself a reputation for it.

I'm getting PM's asking me about you, if I know wtf is wrong with you. So I know I'm not the only one who's curious.

Maybe he has a few thousand dollars to give to Wrong Planet but since he is 17 years old I doubt it.
