Facebook integration? Really?

There used to be a column, ( for as long as I've belonged to WP at least ), showing how many views a thread had had, but it was binned a couple of months ago.
However you can track the numbers by looking at your post listing, from your profile, and against each "post" you made it says how many views the thread it belongs to has had.
eg. by clicking on "Find all posts by ouinon" on my profile page I can see that this thread has had 1,593 views!
PS. Ref. that pop-up "Login or Register" window/banner; I agree, it's very annoying.

Likewise the likewise. (Ditto, +1
I often read posts that I think are good, but the poster has said everything that I would have said anyway and I fully agree with what they've said, so no point me posting a reply. However, the OP can sometimes think everyone is ignoring his post! I've seen that happen lots of times. The people who get quoted the most tend to be those that others disagree with. Very rare people copy someone's post to simply add 'ditto' or '+1'. So yes an internal to WP "like" button would be interesting and informative. It also gives encouragement to people who make those good posts.
For example, one space saving feature could be to have at the bottom of the comment (like facebook)
Aimless,Moog, Tallyman and 7 others liked this comment. The 7 others' names would show up when you clicked that. One thing
though, a "like" button doesn't always apply. You might really relate to someone's memories of being bullied at school and want
to say you understand but you don't want to click a button that says like. I'll bet a lot of people would know they were being
listened to with this feature.
People here generally want their posts on the board to be shared with the autistic and aspergers community on here, as well as the NTs who join here because they have a friend or loved one on the spectrum. It is a community for a reason, and meant to have a level of safety to disclose. It is something that is needed, for people who need somewhere to post their problems, or people who dont feel comfortable talking about the fact they think they are on the spectrum anywhere else.
Also, you dont have to be on Facebook to have your thread "liked". I choose not to be on Facebook yet someone could like my stuff, putting me on there whether I like it or not, and I would not be able to do anything about it.
If people on WP want to communicate with each other on facebook, they can get each other added as friends and do it through Facebook. Peoples posts on here done in good faith should not be insta-splashed everywhere. It is not right.

Aimless "likes" this.
I do sort of think WP is a site where it would be bad taste to like threads.
I mean what will people think of WP if someone likes a thread thats full of hate and bigotry? Everyones facebook friends will all see it.
Not that I am against having a like button all together. I don't want to spoon feed people on my fiends list my posts here, not that I care if they see them but still, I don't see the reason to spoon feed them, cant you keep the like button for other aspects of the site, such as your articles on the homepage, and not the forum?

Thank you. Zen_mistress "likes" a lot of Aimless's posts too....

I'm not too concerned about my posts here being "splashed everywhere," but I find that I'm afraid I'll accidentally click the FB like button and my Facebook contacts will see it. I am a very private person and would find this very upsetting indeed. Upsetting enough to go back and delete all of my posts and never post under this name again. Maybe it's neurotic, but I think we all have some neurosis or other around these parts.

agree with all this too.
except that it might be seen by some as a popularity contest.
so maybe not.

I am not at all comfortable having that feature at the end of threads. It's a little too easy to click on by mistake when just scrolling (hey, I've emailed school stuff to clients by mistake because of a trigger happy mouse, it can happen), and especially when clicking to return to forum (far too closely placed). Nor do I like the 6 degrees of separation aspect of Facebook, and I don't like the idea of my words appearing where I did not specifically put them.
I am wondering about the front page articles, though. Maybe that is a more suitable place for the feature?

It's appalling and it could have really serious consequences, including facebook and real life bullying. It only takes a wrong planet identity to be connected (either correctly or incorrectly) with a facebook identity.
There are things posted here which people would never post to facebook, and with good reason. People have trusted this site, and this is a betrayal of their trust.

This is an interesting dilemma, and I think I can see both sides clearly. On the one hand there does seem to be a good reason for linking the WP community to a broader community such as FB, and that is to promote autism awareness, reach a broader audience in an effort to educate/inform, increase connectedness, and overall improve tolerance (I'm reading between the lines here, so alex pleae correct me if I'm wrong). On the other hand people in the WP community have some very valid concerns regarding privacy, vulnerability, and bullying. There may be several ways to compromise so that the broader interests of the community are served resulting in a win-win.
Here are a couple of suggestions: (1) Divide the website into two sections, an open-access section that is linkable to other internet communities like FB and a members-only section that is closed-access, not available to other internet communities, and includes all of the sensitive discussion forums like Haven, Members Only, Adult Issues, etc. (2) Allow members a one-time only chance to change their screen-name. Overall, I advise patience on this, listening to concerns from WP community members, and only moving forward in slow, incremental steps. Best of luck!
You can adblock the widget so you don't 'like' anything by accident, and facebook does not see that you are on wrong planet, but that doesn't protect you from anyone else's actions.
You can unlike it and go to your facebook and remove it from your wall. I tried that.

I feel this issue is never going to get resolved, I said my piece on the weekend and finally thought this issue would have been resolved by now according to what Alex said, but I guess its still here.
I don't want my posts linked to facebook, this is infringing on my right to privacy, it really doesn't matter if you block it with adblock some body will still hit the bloody
Like button just because its there, we have our posts linked for the whole god damned world to see, I am not happy with the direction WP has taken, its a autisim support
forum not a social networking forum! I can't understand the callousness of this act, members need a safe place to talk and now we have had it taken away.
