I think he's gone. He'll probably be back under a new nom-de-spam soon though.

I might be changing my mind about the Mod situation after this evening's fun and games. It was extremely irritating.

It wouldn't be (shouldn't be) more power, but more people able to use it when necessary. Not like more police, more like more firemen. The closest can respond to the fire, and it would be more likely that one would be on-duty when / if a fire broke out.

I have to disagree with you on that point. It is when people become corrupt and scared that it turns into tyranny. We need more moderators. Tyranny on a forum is because of irresponsible moderators and admins who abuse their power.
Having more moderators is a neccessity for this forum. People shouldn't fear the right power in the right hands.

a moderator was on duty when the spammer struck but moderators don't have the power to completely pwn a spammer to death.

...take care of a spammer would have been a better way to put it.

Then again, this is part of the problem. There are all of.... one? (That's a guess, but I think it is pretty accurate) people that can "handle" a spammer problem completely. That alone will cause problems.

I thought moderators had the ability to lock threads, even if not to delete them. If they do not have the power to delete offensive threads I am not sure I understand why not.

The process I have observed is most meaningfully posting stops during a spam/troll attack because the users began reading the attackers posts and responding to it.

Basically many people have admitted the attacker has the power and you need a strong outside force to make you feel safe.

I say let the process of evolution play itself out and those that can not tolerate the situation should weed themselves out of the equation.

they have the ability to do that.

I think Alex meant they can't IP ban them to hell, and instigate legal proceedings.

I realise that, I suppose I am just confused as to why the threads were not deleted or locked if a mod was on at the time the spamming was occurring, unless it was seen as pointless until the member could be banned fully?
