That was my guess as well. He did apologize, but an apology doesn't suddenly make things "ok." Still, all we can do is guess at the reason(s) at this point.

Yes, but then what else can you say? It sucks when sorry isn't enough, and I know from experience.

Yes, in truth, I am always on edge with anything I post as I am so fearful of this happening to me. I think this site can become a support system for many of its users, including me...and take that away, you end up with a very major meltdown, I can tell you, lol. I avoid cussing because of this fear, even though I see others cussing and staying around. With a warning you would know and be able to rectify your behaviours.

But, I would think that he'd probably have to just cross the line once and be banned without warning, since he has been banned before. I'd hope that we'd at least get a warning first if we were walking on thin ice. But, he was pretty rude to someone in the Haven, and like you were saying that's a reason for a ban by itself.

As it seems to happen often nowadays on WP, maybe there should be a "Banned users and why so" thread around here? So that we could know why?

EDIT: Of course there is the problem of having the banned be unable to correct anything.

I was once banned from a uk spiritual forum. I had been a member there for some time, and was even an assistant. I had posted about my problems only the day before...admitted publicly that I had such and such that might cause me to behave in such and such a way. I got a wonderfully supportive response...the next day, I was banned...why? Because I had developed an obsession with a male member/friend..who actually had no issue with me, but another female member who liked him also, did have an issue and passed on some of my pms to her from when I was angry, to an admin...who also did not like me... it devastated me, to put it mildly as that had become my haven. I returned once, to try and show I could behave, and was banned again almost right away. A thread was started that mentioned a member with mental issues being banned...I saw it... that hurt like F. A year later, most of the admins had been cast off, and the original admin asked me to return and apologised for her treatment of me... I refused to work on there again, even though invited, as the condition was that I behaved etc etc.. which I found deeply insulting.

I'm not sure there is anything that could be said. The issue is that, assuming this was the reason for the ban, he was effectively ripping into someone in the haven. While someone else may have agreed with him, in one post, he didn't leave it to one post.

Is this enough for a ban? Well, unfortunately none of us can make that judgment call. Was it out of line? Yes.

The fact that he apologized shouldn't be simply ignored. His explanation also helps...some. He recognized why he did it, which if nothing else is helpful to him. The problem is that his actions caused a user to feel that they could not speak their mind in the sub-forum that is supposed to be "safe" for anyone. That in combination with the fact that he was practically on probation already likely led to the decision. I don't know if I agree or disagree with the decision, but that isn't all that important, as my opinion on the matter doesn't have any impact on how it was handled or how similar events will be handled in the future.

I pulled him up on it. Made him aware he was out of order with his behaviour, but I never mentioned thinking he should be banned. I imagine it took a lot to apologise publicly... I have trouble with such things. I imagine there is some other reason as well for his ban.

The thing is that we are prone to over-reacting and acting on the spur of the moment, and therefore we get banned for something we'd regret in a passive state of mind.

God yes, the number of times I have reacted badly to something due to not seeing clearly in the midst of some anger, and woken up next day thinking, 'Oh no, I wont get away with it this time'...that feeling of dread in the pit of your stomach

I want to talk to Kahazidhea, but I don't have any way to do that. I'll just hope he reads this and emails me.

Sorry I wasn't clear - you mentioned that in a conversation about a real troll.

he attacked some guy pretty severely but the post was deleted. He's also been starting threads that seem like troll bait. Obviously this isn't grounds for banning normally. Although, when you're on probation, even a minor offense gets you back in trouble. And I don't even think viciously attacking another member is all that minor.

But for someone who was originally banned for trolling, it seems sort of suspicious that he would create a major scene within a couple of days of coming back as a "changed man." I also think he may not be who he says he is. I think he purposely goes to forums and causes scenes and then apologizes. If you remember, ATOMIKA kept apologizing but then started spamming again. Now he doesn't apologize after spamming, but he did originally. There are sick people out there who try to mess with people in a support community by pretending to be a kid with asperger's.

Actually, to be precise, he was originally banned for habitual trolling AND posting pornographic images iirc. I didn't want to have to ban him again. It makes me feel horrible to ban kids with aspergers although I think he may not even be a kid or even an aspie.
