From what I understand, behavior egregious
enough to warrant a ban is SO obvious that
a warning would not be necessary. For example,
the DOS type attacks that we are subject to,
occasionally.

probably why the mods are nameless.
Too embarassed.

The only current mods, who are actively
operating on more than simply spam
attacks are fairly clearly identified.

These MODS are dispensing unregulated vigilante justice. I demand consistency and a code of operations that we can all be familiar with!

Wow. Either things DIDN'T manage to
right themselves, or (I hope) that
you were using an IP address which
would tend to indicate a sockpuppet.

What would you suggest? Should members not be warned when their continued behavior may result in a ban? Should errant members be banned without warning?

Yes, members should be warned, the problem is that your warning is not in a good place.

Why on earth do you have to put a warning metaphor text in your signature?

People can go and read the TOS, they don't need to read warnings everytime they see you around making any post anywhere on this site.

I thought mods did warn people, Privately, kind of funny that you prefer complains made by PMs only.

Other than that, nice job, dude! 8)

I am trying to get that organised! !! You will demand nothing of us, as we have enough demands already. I am NOT dispensing vigilante justice, I just try to keep things in check. I'd like to see YOU do this work, which is basically s**t shovelling. Do you like to shovel s**t, and endure ingratitude for your hard work from those who it benefits most? You who know nothing can understand nothing.

Go back to your games and uni study. Go back to whatever football team you support (it's not Collingwood, is it?). Because if you make generalisations like that, you have no place in this thread.

It is neither unregulated nor vigilante. Perhaps you're posting slanderous comments in an attempt to unduly influence the situation. The mods regulate each other through peer review. We frequently disagree. Alex may reverse any decision we make.

Vigilante justice is when one member attacks another, or posts in a manner designed to humiliate, justifying their actions by the behavior of the other member. "Who thinks so-n-so should be banned?" is one example. We'll ban you without warning for that. It's just a variation of suicide by cop.

It was another attempt to get people to realize that they do have control of their own destiny. There is a relationship between your actions and what happens to you.

I am strongly opposed to public warnings to individuals. I am in the minority on this issue. I prefer to handle these things privately to protect members privacy. I have nothing to hide, but the cynics want you to believe that I do. The member can always make private warnings public. The cynics have insisted that warnings be public, so they are. Do you want the cynics to decide how this site will be operated? They do always make the "safe" assumption. I suggested to Alex months ago that we give the membership more say in how this site is operated. Should we allow the vocal minority, who want to see more chaos and drama, dictate how this site should be operated?

I have several messages claming that "'lots of people' feel just like I do.” I haven't met this member called "lots of people" yet.

MrMark Alex said "Mods are here to get rid of Spam attacks.''
Nothing more than that.

You are not supposed to ban members without his permission or knowledge like you did before.

I hope that If Alex makes any new Moderators he choices members who actually are diagnosed with AS like Quatermass. Not people who have some personality disorder like narcissism or borderline.

Those possibly may be co-morbid, bizarre. My father has (my mother and I believe, and she's a psychologist) a narcissistic personality disorder. Borderline personality disorder, however, is not often co-morbid from what I know.

It is not a matter of whether a person actually has been diagnosed with AS, but rather what their character is like, as well as their coverage. A good mod should also have some BBS experience in the first place, as well as have the right attitude.

The person told two people on WP in the Haven to kill themselves he was a sockpuppet of a banned troll. He was given a massive benefit of the doubt and multiple chances but he was in fact here merely to harm others for his own amusement. When 3 mods decided he should be banned he was.

Agreed, but Bizarre has a very good point

Our good ol' friend Mr.Mark is giving us the idea that he still can ban anyone according to his good judgement while Alex clearly said no more to that.

"Everyone on this site has control of his or her destiny." <--- and he still had the nerve to say that out loud?

lol, well, we just saw that you don't have the full authority for that anymore, my friend. No need to make quotes about a train squashing people and talk about destiny like Master Yoda does.

Cheers! 8)

Christ, I was just kidding - you know, making an extreme comment to parody those who are complaining about what is pretty much a free service to us. I forgot about how black and white and literal some people with AS are. 'Vigilnte justice'? Didn't that give it away.

But to see how aggressively and rudely you responded, even if you did think that what I was saying was an attack...you will get no apology from me. No need to be a prick.

You didn't sound sarcastic. Choose your words more carefully next time. Because I am not happy with the way we are all criticised for doing our job. How many times have I heard, 'just kidding' to defuse a term of abuse? My aggression was matched by the way your own post sounded aggressive.

I do my utmost to do this job properly. And to have people criticise my work on an exaggerated basis is intolerable. Have you ever been a mod, Mitch8817?

As for your deliberate spelling error, so many people make spelling mistakes that I have given up correcting them, or taking notice of them.

Reread my post, I was actually supporting you, not abusing or criticising. I have long been an outspoken supporter of the mods, commenting on their speedy dealings with spam attacks and level-headed dealings with arguements between members.

I suppose I didn't sound sarcastic because text makes no sound; you simply interpreted it wrong. Sorry you misinterpreted my comments, as it was clearly not my intention to be offensive - you on the other hand, I wonder. Think logically; why would I suddenly launch an unsubstantiated attack for no reason. I have never done this.

And to what 'deliberate' spelling error do you refer? What does your third paragraph even mean?

The Dionysian dismemberment thing…OK, well, it’s a bit off-topic but since it’s been mentioned a few times in this thread, I should say something. It was something I wrote privately :!: in a PM to Mr Mark because I thought he was into Jung. I’m not going to bore everyone with descriptions of the archetype, let’s just say it’s about self-destruction.
I liked AndyUK and I tried to intervene to stop him getting banned but he wanted/needed to. My interfering just made it worse really, with hindsight. AndyUK was me, 30 years ago, so I knew where he was coming from. I don’t think he was just a spammer actually, although he was a nuisance when he did that. I thought he needed a bit of support, even though at the time he was acting like a right pain in the *ss.
To mention something that was said in a PM though... :shameonyou:
