Isn't Edge available for Windows only? That's of no use to me here.

I gave up with Firefox after it broke more pages than I could tolerate, moving to Vivaldi (Chrome engine based) which is a huge improvement with lots of built-in functionality.
It's also cross-platform.

Sometimes I would like a "like" button on this site

It's like when you don't wanna comment but the person has made an excellent point
It's like a recognition thing really

I mean it would be completely anonymous as well for obvious reasons and an option to retract your "like" too because (as we know) opinions change and that's a good thing as well

So that was it, that was my suggestion
Just a little "like" button

Thanks in advance for making this happen

Yeah sometimes I forget you can't do that.

EDIT unfortunately, to my understanding, the software running this site is not amenable to that sort of enhancement.

Yep, there are no planned enhancements - it's running "as is" and probably forever.

Words and emojis will have to do.

A lot of sites that do have a like option do give you a choice of emojis.

I seen the Like feature turn into competitions on other sites. Since WP is a site for people who have social issues & tend to be unpopular, I would be strongly against having a popularity contest on this forum that could cause members who don't get likes to feel left out of the clique so to speak. However since Cornflake said there's no planned enhancements, I'm not gonna worry about that happening here in the near future.

It would be nice to have likes, if only because it would make it easier for people to show they support a position being advocated for. That said, it's not the end of the world to not have that feature.

I think worries over potential butthurt that likes might cause are overblown and trivial. If no one agrees with you enough to even like your post, odds are it's because you're wrong. It's kinda infantilizing to act like we're incapable of dealing with that reality, like we're still in kindergarden so you need to bring a cupcake and a valentine for everyone.

Posting :thumright: after the post might be a workable substitute?

I've also seen :hail: or :lmao: used as a more emphatic "like" to posts.

Agreed, but if there's a bunch of those posts they feel spammy, not to mention not all members feel comfortable posting and just lurk instead. People who don't post might still click to like.

That said, it's not a major issue, so it's hard to get emotionally invested in it.

Even though he seems keen on the idea ATM the moderator would blow a gasket at the sight of reels and reels of emojis all showing appreciation on certain threads

It is spamming and spam stinks

I used to do

**** this ****

when I liked or agreed with a post. I need to get back to that technique.

Yep, an anonymous "like" button which increases a "liked:" count embedded by the system on a post is the best way to go with this. Clicking the button again would unlike a post you'd previously liked, decrement the counter by one.

Scrolling through a stream of posts with just :thumright: or similar would get old very quickly.

If only ideas implemented themselves as code...

I'm so used to a like button being there in every other forum, I automatically get ready to click the one here that doesn't exist.

As earlier, it seems to be a browser/platform issue.

To dodge the popover problem in Librewolf on a Raspberry Pi (1080p), I have to dial down the Zoom to 90%, when librewolf is occupying half the screen (so window width of 960 pixels). I like viewing your site with two Librewolves tiled side by side - the forum index on left side, then some deeper content in a thread in the right-hand librewolf. Then I have several tabs in each window.

Just saying: I've found a "sweet spot" zoom level of 140% on my Raspberry Pi (with my 2 side-by-side tiled librewolves). No popover problem then. The font is nice and readable as well, on my 14" screen. 8)

I have respect for just leaving a working system running, even if it's somewhat old-school.

PS: I know how to install and set up a Flarum forum (works great on a Raspberry Pi), however what I don't have the energy for is moderating a new forum. You know, the ongoing people skills. Just saying: Flarum is similar to Discourse (both are Open Source), but Flarum is much more performant than Discourse (avoids the ugly, sluggish, more-prone-to-security-flaws node.js)

^ Discourse's interface is meh IMO and kinda resembles R*ddit.
I've once seen FluxBB in action and it was pretty pleasant to use. I know it from user view only though...
