Overmoderation?
I guess i don't feel emotionally attached to it but I like it and the people seem alright. I am happy to post honestly and learn from others.
AS I said if I was, or when I have been, attacked I give a good account of myself and it doesn't bother me. I do worry that others may not be as confident in themselves to retaliate and were standards and the spirit of WP to disintegrate then people may not wish to use the site.
It seems from what you have said though things are fairly in hand. Which is cool.
People may not like all of what I say or my opinions on things but I am honest and I do try to respect appropriate behaviours. If anyone has a problem with anything I say I am happy to explain or apologise in most cases

So THAT'S what's behind all the thread necros.
I couldn't imagine that it was that you were interested,
given the quality of your replies.
I don't particularly think that putting old conversations
completely out of the way makes any more sense
than banning you, for making such actions would.
The point is that sometimes part of the site history
is of value. Sometimes, a long discussion on an old
topic could come to mind as particularly relevant to
a newer one.
So, as long as there aren't any costs involved in
maintaining the old threads, I'd say keep them. And
pray that we don't get beset with necro-trolls.

I have to agree with Alex.
I too. I'm VERY glad to have this statement.
Then maybe it would do some good to keep with what you say, Alex. If you've said that you don't want people banned for reasons other than "absolute spam or abuse", then please hold to your word.
What about subtle trolling, excessive use of swearing, and posting to upset other users? Where do you draw the line?

Indeed. I rather hope that Alex's statement holds
EXACTLY as it appears. This is the feeling that I
got out of his instructions to the moderators, when
I first became one, and the same feeling that I had
when I felt free to resign, on the grounds that the
boat had steadied on the correct course again, after
the recent mishap.
BS, "it's not my thread." I wrote the original post, it is all my original work. I can delete it, lock it down, and delete any offending posts I don't like in it (including yours--which I just did). If you keep this up, I'm going to make sure any trolling posts of yours in the future are deleted when you post in this thread. If you want to disagree and offer an opposing view--that's fine--you're not the only one to do it in this thread. But the difference is that you're turning it into a free-for-all much unlike others, who posted their criticisms and concerns in a calm and civil manner. And you will be treated accordingly so long as you keep doing so.
One last time: STOP TROLLING THIS THREAD. You have been warned.
I do hope you kept a record of it,
for review. You obviously can't take
anyone disagreeing with you.
THIS is the kind of overmoderation which
I tried so hard to fight against.
This particular mod couldn't handle that his ideas
were even challenged. I was neither disrespectful
to him (though he was a bit to me), nor was I trolling.
If dissenting views to his precious advice are not allowed,
we have a serious little tyrant here.

WTF (with 'who' instead of 'what') was DataSage? Was he banned or something?
I don't like your posts. I also have difficulty having my ideas challenged. That much I will admit. But I will not engage in censorship because of my specific feelings. This does not mean, however, that I will not take appropriate action if the situation demands it. You are not the only person on Wrong Planet, and neither am I. There are dozens of members active at any given moment. Several thousand still actively use their accounts, even if intermittently. Your demands on Wrong Planet must be considered with all those others. Utilitarianism is what is needed.

I thought the adult forum for instance, was meant for items of discussion that would be relevant to older aspies (or people with an adult aspie in their family, an adult aspie friend or romantic partner or spouse) so I wasn't ever objecting to sexual discussions per se.
I also noted that the adult forum could be for discussion about non prescription drugs and suicidal feelings. What I objected to was that the discussions seemed taken over by mindless smut which really only interested a tiny minority of the general membership. I'm not a wowser, despite what some would say. Goodness, I even like Billy Connolly sketches, and he can be pretty ribald at times.
The real issue, despite what Calandale and some others said, was not freedom of speech. It was deeper than that - just because something was put in the adult section does not mean it should be pornographic. It might at times be a bit ribald or suggestive but I don't think describing some acts in excruciating and unwanted detail comes under that heading.
I didn't feel I could complain to the moderator as he was the main one doing it. Plus, I don't know how to copy over links to threads.

This is less for you than for Alex. DataSage is a mod here.
Posts dating advice on one thread. The unattributed part of the
quote there is me.
Apparantly, one cannot disagree with his ideas in the thread
he started, without being attacked, and told to "get the hell
out of his thread." Ok, whatever. Didn't even remember
that he was one of the mods, so no big deal. However, my reply
to that, which continued to take apart his "plan" to get any woman
(and I dearly hope that no younger members use that indescriminately),
also told him quite clearly that just because he started a thread, it
gives no special ownership. The result, is the message quoted.
Now, you know where I stand on moderators using their abilities
on their own fights. Indeed, even other mods should be staying
out of such discussion. But to have hidden mods tyrannizing, even
over only one thread, is a pile of crap. And anyone who cannot
take the (mild even by my standards) criticism of their ideas,
should NOT be a mod here.
Thank you for clarifying some insight into your own thoughts though.
None of this is really an overmoderation issue, and one far worse
than anything you (or anything else I've seen here, outside of
some mistaken bannings) has occurred. Nonetheless, I'll take a
few moments to continue our debate.
First, it's good to see it handled in words, rather than actions.
And to handle it here rather than across many topics (we are
both to blame here). But, quite simply, although that was the
original intention of the adult forum (before I got here), it has
changed. And those changes led to the creation of a forum where
just such issues could be discussed, without having to deal with
what you would term 'smut' and I a frank discussion of sexual
matters.
Recreational drugs are indeed discussed there. Though the
threads were buried under the avalanche of necroed ones,
along with much of the 'smut'.
Not mindless. Discussions of likes and dislikes. Some advice.
Safety issues. Really, the adult section became something of
a random discussion area for topics which were too racy. As
opposed to the In Depth Adult Discussion section, which caters
to the topics you are bemoaning the lack of.
Nothing pornographic remains in there. I trimmed such things
(except for after a former mod made an example of a thread
which was mildly so - when I refrained briefly in respect to that
person's judgment). I haven't seen any appear since. As to ribald
and suggestive, you'll find things like that throughout the site. Free
speech is indeed a lovely thing. Nothing is described in more detail
necessary for the conversations at hand. Nothing is put there for
mere titillation. Had you not taken the action that you did, and merely
brought this issue up, as so many had, there would have been no problem.
You would have been told about the other adult forum.
I am not a moderator. If I was, this would belong
in the undermoderation thread that I jokingly suggested,
not so long ago.

Was that a good clarification, or a bad one?
I've checked. Datasage isn't a mod according to the mod list. You sure he is a mod?
