Reread my post, I was actually supporting you, not abusing or criticising. I have long been an outspoken supporter of the mods, commenting on their speedy dealings with spam attacks and level-headed dealings with arguements between members.

I suppose I didn't sound sarcastic because text makes no sound; you simply interpreted it wrong. Sorry you misinterpreted my comments, as it was clearly not my intention to be offensive - you on the other hand, I wonder. Think logically; why would I suddenly launch an unsubstantiated attack for no reason. I have never done this.

And to what 'deliberate' spelling error do you refer? What does your third paragraph even mean?

Ah, sorry, didn't compare your reply to my post with your sarcastic post. You mispelt vigilante in your reply to my tirade. I presumed it was in the original 'tirade', and when you said it was sarcasm, I assumed you were mocking someone else's spelling.

Clearly not your intention to be offensive? I couldn't tell that. Think logically based on past behaviour? I have not paid that much attention to your postings to do so. What I saw was an attack. My response was a reaction of hurt retaliation, rather than an offensive attack.

I hope we can put this incident behind us. I am grateful for your support, though I haven't seen any of it. I'll take it on trust. But it was hard to tell you were sarcastic. Even TheMachine1 seemed to think you were actually attacking.

I am trying to get that organised! !! You will demand nothing of us, as we have enough demands already. I am NOT dispensing vigilante justice, I just try to keep things in check. I'd like to see YOU do this work, which is basically sh** shovelling. Do you like to shovel sh**, and endure ingratitude for your hard work from those who it benefits most? You who know nothing can understand nothing.

Go back to your games and uni study. Go back to whatever football team you support (it's not Collingwood, is it?). Because if you make generalisations like that, you have no place in this thread.

The members will indeed demand things,
or move elsewhere. While the staff here has
every right to act like petty dictators, if htat is
Alex's will, the members, unlike those who live
under real life tyranny, have every ability to leave.

Look, I know that you are a good person, but this kind
of attitude just can't be the face of the staff here, or
'twill drive people away.

Though those who support freedom inevitably fall by the
wayside. Tired, as we have no real thrill off of being "in
charge," we don't wish to serve anymore. That simple.
All that remains are those who desire it, for some reason.
Until they go out of bounds too often, as has happened
before.

Do you think that attitude was calculated to drive people away? I have no desire to act like a 'petty dictator', I do not want power, I merely want respect and trust. I thought I wasn't getting any in Mitch8817's post, which seemed like a calculated attack. He seemed to be impugning all mods on this BBS.

Hell, I KNOW that you don't. Honestly, I doubt that anyone
does. The problem is that one begins to feel this need for
respect and trust. That's exactly what the membership
shouldn't give, as long as too much is hidden.

And the desire for it, is the path to corruption.
Trust, fine. Respect is dangerous. I tried VERY
hard to cultivate a lack of respect.

When some people's views, and my own
desire to remain, began to be apparant
to me, I knew that 'twas time to step down.

Yeah people get upset when the freedom of speech of sociopaths is suppressed. If people want a sociopath friendly enviroment I'm sure
they can PM Calandale for the url.

The problem is, those who DON'T realize that.
They end up staying beyond when they can be
fair. I'm not saying it's happened to anyone. Just
that's where the danger lies.

Only openess could fix this. Or little action.
The minimal action choice MIGHT just work,
if it is actually followed. I am smelling signs
that it, once again, might have been violated.

This worries me. Makes me think that I erred.

Ok. I didn't know that was all this was about.
Forgive my suspicions, given what has happened.

Nothing more than that.
Alex has said nothing more than that to you.

You are not supposed to ban members without his permission or knowledge like you did before.
In Alex's absence, I'm supposed to do whatever I think is best. My judgement of what I think is best continues to evolve with my experience. Alex will not be leaving town again without telling someone when he'll be back. I waited and waited and waited and was actually starting to wonder if something had happened to him. You realize that he's recieved death threats in the past for doing the best job here he could figure out how to do. I finally took action when I felt I couldn't wait another day or week or who-knows-how-long for him to come back.

I hope that If Alex makes any new Moderators he choices members who actually are diagnosed with AS like Quatermass. Not people who have some personality disorder like narcissism or borderline.

Since it's common knowledge that I failed to get a diagnosis, (though I did get the information I need to get the diagnosis if I really want it) I assume you're talking about me. Veiled personal attacks are still personal attacks. The second sentence is unnecessary; the first one conveys your point. I'm sure Alex appreciates your input.

Our good ol' friend Mr.Mark is giving us the idea that he still can ban anyone according to his good judgement while Alex clearly said no more to that.
In Alex's absence, I will continue to do what I think best. As I said, my judgement continues to evolve. Also, other steps are being taken to avoid past mistakes.

"Everyone on this site has control of his or her destiny." <--- and he still had the nerve to say that out loud?

And I will continue to do so. There are too many fatalists here, certain that they are doomed and seeing no reason why they should try to become more than they are. Some are bent on doing as much damage and taking down with them as many others as they can. Hopefully, they don't succeed at destroying anything more important then a website.

No need to make quotes about a train squashing people and talk about destiny like Master Yoda does.
A thousand apologies, greenblue. Can we move on please?

Quote:
Christ, I was just kidding - you know, making an extreme comment to parody those who are complaining about what is pretty much a free service to us. I forgot about how black and white and literal some people with AS are. 'Vigilnte justice'? Didn't that give it away.
I, too, thought you were serious. We've got some complete idiots around here that we've got to deal with, and sometimes I'm one of 'em. It might be more helpful if you expressed your suport more directly. Many people here have a difficult picking up on subtleties.

I hope that newer mods come from the over-40 pool. You see, I used to be just like you. Unfortunatley, I think most of the over-40 crowd have the sense refuse this job when Alex asks for their help.

I have never argued for restricting non-hate speech. I have only argued that free speech is not protected here on this privately owned site.
Alex asked for my advice as to whether or not it was in the best interest of the site for me the remain. I told him that I was too close to the issue to help him on this one, and that he should do whatever he felt was in the best interest of his site.

Having ASD is in no way a requirement to be a good moderator. I can think of a NT grand mother like Nannarob that would do the job as well as anyone.

You think I don't know that?

Ease is not our only goal.

Respect and trust have to
be earned, and it is damned
hard, without openess.

IF they are rightfully earned
(and yes, I do know what you
are facing here), then the
ease is fine. As long as there
are doubts among the membership,
they damned well ought to be
expressed - even if they hurt a
few feelings.
