I'm not sure the cost or what is need technology wise to make a site Mobile friendly but thought it'd be cool to have for WP what are your thoughts?

OMG I'd never get anything done it's worse than crack already!

It's a great idea, but I think it's too big and rich to be easily navigable on the small screen. Maybe an area that is specifically mobile.

I just tried it on my iphone and it works fine technically.

I don't think we need a mobile version of WP. I am on my BlackBerry Pearl 8120 right now using Opera Mini 4.2 and it handles it very well.

It's a good idea. :) But I think Wrong Planet would already work on the mobile.

I can view/post from my blackberry. The ads to the left make it annoying, but it's possible. The outdated slow forum is even worse on a cell though, annoying.

Cost is zero, you just need someone to make the site recognize a mobile browser and use an alternative stylesheet.

BTW there's this code for a simpler WP, but only works right now in browsers, not mobile phones: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postx106454-0-0.html

I'll second the use of Blackberry + Opera... It works for me, though it's sometimes slow to navigate.

It would be nice to have a lite version which would work in various browsers.

Lite would get rid of the smileys, advertising, rich text boxes etc, colours and tables, images and avatars.

People on slow connections as well as people with mobiles could use it.

Cost depends on the technologies you're using but it's probably not much to develop.

There's probably several members here who have the skills (and possibly the time) to make these additions, if they were allowed to do so.
