Okay, so I'm lookin' at all these complaints, and I thought it would be nice to start a Moderator Appreciation thread.. Probably most of us criticize some mod decisions sometimes, but overall, this site runs pretty darn well! It's the most active AS site I've come across, and in general things run quite smoothly. Obvious spam is recognized and deleted quickly, and the most obvious of trolls are banned within a reasonable amount of time. There's are some issues between members that get annoying, and although it can be difficult sometimes to get up the courage to talk to a mod when there is a specific issue, they usually come up with a rational and fairly reasonable response.
Everybody here has trouble being understood at times, almost everybody has trouble coming off as rude without meaning it, and most of us have a general expectation that we won't be liked wherever we go, which creates some pretty serious problems right off the bat. Not to mention that being mostly aspies themselves, the mods have those exact same problems.
I complain sometimes and I disagree sometimes and sometimes I'm just too nervous to say anything when I have a problem, but those first two are just part of the nature of a forum, and the last part is my own issue. (Well, not mine specifically because others have it too, but it's not a thing that anybody is at fault about.)

So here's my Moderator Thank-You thread.. Y'all are awesome!

I know it's a thankless "job".. Anybody else want to offer them some thanks?

Yes, most certainly. Thank the Mods for the much needed upkeep of the support site infrastructure. Keep it up! :)

I dunno if this was the right forum to put this thread in.. Maybe it should have been in WP discussion or something..

I've been thinking, and a lot of times I have trouble specifying that even if I question something in particular, that doesn't mean I dislike the person.. Don't most aspies have that problem? Not being able to properly express the difference between criticizing one particular decision, or agreeing with a problem somebody else has, without making it sound like you have a problem with the person, rather than just questioning that one issue?

Lol, maybe I should start a thread in the Social Skills section about that... it makes me crazy, trying to not get personal in disagreements. Usually it's not personal at all, but.. it always seems to end up sounding that way.

Good idea, Maggiedoll. The mods strike a good balance between free expression and preventing abuse. They do it for no pay and mostly get responses only from those who want to complain. Inviting some positive responses makes a nice change.

Kudos to Makuranoshi for restoring the disputed threads to the Adult forum, and restoring some of my faith in the site in the process. Now I can get back to more importan matters such as advising Aspie men on the finer points of getting their ashes hauled via craigslist and intimidating the PPR crowd away from gun related topics... :D

* I'd like to point out that I'm posting from a cell phone while on a boat in the middle of Puget Sound, I'm THAT thrilled to see this get taken care of.

^^I thought so. Much of what they do is make bad things go away.. Nobody sees or thinks about the spam that's already gone! And then most people who do contact mods are already upset about something.

I feel like a bit of a suck-up here, but I keep seeing them say that it's a thankless job and stuff, but I think half of that is because it's so difficult to know when to say "thank you," particularly when it's for stuff that we don't know about, like getting rid of spam. If I see spam, I PM them to let them know, but if I don't see spam, there's no message! lol
I just keep coming back because WP is the best autism forum I've found.. Heck, I think it's the best forum I've found in general. That's why whenever I have questions, or see something interesting, I go "Hmm, I wonder what people on WP would think about that!" or "I bet someone on WP has dealt with that, I'll ask there!" and then post about it.
It's home. :D

Ever been in the middle of a bout of righteous indignation then suddelnly realised you are in fact being a dick? That happened to me today and I just wanted to thank the mod in question for letting me apologise and get on my way, something that wouldn't happen anywhere else. In fact it felt as though I'd been forgiven before I'd even started which was nice.

Cheers Merle!
