Big ad opens whenever I try to read - WTF???

So, my usual method is to log in, click the "Discussion" link, then click the link for posts since my last visit. The last three times I did this, rather than getting the link to all the new posts, I've been confronted with a large full-page ad claiming that Obama wants me to buy insurance. What the frak is up with this? Am I the only person getting this, or has everyone else gotten it for a long time and I've just been lucky so far?

Which browser are you using, alot of members here are using Ad Blocker on Firefox and don't have any ads.

Where it has a counter on the bottom saying page loading/skip ad and replay ad? Yeah, I started getting those a couple of days ago, though mine have been for that classmate site thing.

I thought at first it was a bug, but I ran a couple of full scans and came up with nothing, and I'm only getting it on this site. I have absolutely no problem with side ads - the banners and whatnot - but I do not like this full page ad nonsense at all.

HEY! I was going to make a topic about this! THANKS! I hate the full page ads too what's up WP? The bannder ads,google ads,Autism ads IMO are all fine but the full page ad stuff is annoying I get it ALL THE TIME on IGN which I LOATHE GETTING!! ! AHHHHH!

Adverts? Are there adverts on WP? I've never seen any. (Firefox + Adblock plus)

I'm a Firefox fan myself (so much faster than Explorer), but this just started happening out of the blue last night. I haven't installed or uninstalled anything. This particular login it didn't happen - maybe the problem has been addressed? (One can hope, anyway.)

I suppose Alex is just trying to keep WrongPlanet up and pay for the server. No one has been asking me for WP Supporter badges, so I guess no one is contributing.

I'm getting this too, all of a sudden.

me to, you need to keep clicking threw the ads, that is REALLY annoying and you are going to lose loooooots of members if they are continualy having to click threw ads, alot of people dont know how to block ads, plus alot of people dont notice that you can click threw them so they just leave the site thinking that it is not working correct.

If I am going to have to keep clicking threw ads then I will stop coming here (I am not going to test the websites I work on with a browser full of plugins, just so I can come to WP)

Before the full page pop ups, Online Now was in the 600s all the time.

As the rest of the ads pay by how many viewers, and something about clicks, it would seem a marketing loss for most of the ads.

I had that happen today, first time I've seen that. I was thinking it may have been because I was using an older computer, with an older version of Internet Explorer, but after reading this thread, maybe it's just a coincidence of timing.

Thankfully, I only got it once when first coming into the messageboard, and not during using it.

I really don't like the full page ads either, but I can understand Alex's position. A site this large will use tons of bandwidth, and that isn't free. In fact, depending on the hosting contract, it can run into the hundreds of dollars a month. Then you have to factor in the space on the server to hold all of this information, many many gigs, which once again, costs.

Still hate those ads though. Man I wish I could donate a bit... ><

I do rather wish that the companies buying those ads would at least try to tailor them to the audience. I don't mind the insurance one so much, but why in the Nine Billion Names of God would I ever want to get hold of anyone I knew in high school? I spent four years trying to get away from those jackholes!
