You can't add images to your signature on this forum

I was wondering if I could allow that to work, because I have a couple of signatures I might want to put down but I don't see why we can't do it?

Is it not supported or something?

It's not supported.

While it is takes just two seconds to set this phpBB2 board to allow BBCode (or even HTML) in signatures, and elsewhere - on WP, it is not permitted to add images to your signature - or indeed, anything but the most limited BBCode.

At this moment, roboboy430, by being a single, unbroken string, your signature violates this rule in the WrongPlanet Rules:

Quote:
* Posts which disrupt the page format may be edited or deleted by the Moderators.

However, now only Alex can force you to change it, as moderators have no control whatsoever over your signature - other than deleting every post you make.

=========

For my part, I have always supported Alex's choice to disallow use of anything obtrusive, for a signature. This is a support site... not a "look at how clever my signature is" site.

On a similar note, I personally find it irritating to have to use AdBlock to get rid of animated GIFs. I cannot read a post that has any animated images near it. While I'm happy to read a post that has a relevant animation within the post, I find other animations to be too much of a sensory distraction from the post's contents.

Users who persist in marking their posts as "special" in some way, I just find I have to skip past, without reading.

Since the original question's been answered, I'll take this opportunity to ask my own question: why is there no BBCode or HTML in blogs?

No HTML is pretty standard, everywhere, if you don't want the site being taken down, every five minutes, by evil code.

No BBCode in blogs... well, I never figured out where any of the blog code is. I don't know if Alex knows anything much about it. It isn't a standard part of phpBB2. It isn't even properly linked to the main phpBB2 database (it's addressed by user name, father than user ID). I'm not sure why it doesn't have BBCode as standard, or an option, as it should be pretty trivial to pass the text through the same filter as the posts, PMs and article text, to translate the BBCode into HTML for page output.

Yeah, I feel kind of dumb for including HTML in that now; don't see how I didn't see how that could be abused, especially since I've been trying to embed comments in pages on another blog (mostly "To hell with Georgia!" or others like that).

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I'm going to do it again. How does the board determine who is "browsing" a forum? I just made a thread in the video game forum, which immediately got six views. But the only person browsing the forum according to the thing at the top was me.

Ahem -- HTML is allowed in blogs. But this is basic HTML, like bold, italics, underline and hyperlinks. Also, unordered and ordered lists function in WP blogs, I'm fairly certain. If you want to use an image then I'd advise you to simply link to the image file.

As far as asking how they determine thread viewers, pat2rome, my best guess is that those numbers are mostly from anonymous viewers. I, for one, have browsed the forums while logged out. Others probably do too, but of course, this is up to an admin to officially answer.

From my understanding, the members shown at the top isn't a complete list... if I recall correctly, those are only the individuals in the subforum index and not those reading specific messages within that subforum - but I could easily be mistaken here. The number of views is based on total views and not those solely by registered members. Post views aren't 100% accurate either, but views are added in multiples of three; again, others such as Lau would be able to give a more technical explanation.

there are literally hundreds of accounts named 'guest' that are browsing forums, posting posts, posting private messages etc. When I asked what it was, Lau told me it was probably the Google "listening" for the news feed.

it why there seems to be so many members on all the time.

I was thinking about that one a few weeks ago when I was randomly browsing the rules page (doing random things for no reason is how I roll 8) ).

People do it all the time, including 2 in this very thread (irony is awesome, no really). I wouldn't blame anyone for them getting a way with it. Pointless in my opinion but I don't see anything wrong with it. From an inch of text or less to a single character?

This post was pointless. 8)

No wonder why there is constantly more members on WP out of nowhere, I was thinking, how on earth can we have that much on WP, but after all, there is alot of members... Which half of them don't even use or are imposters or trolls.

And this site however does seem quite known to alot of aspies... I'm surprised my girlfriend even knows this site...

there are few imposters on WP and if there are trolls, the membership will report them to the moderators, just like they always do. :D

Actually, I was quoting the rules. Are the rules are pointless? That seems like what you are saying, and if you aren't, I am certain you will enlighten me.
