Is it just me? When i see a thread that has the new post symbol flashing I realise it actually doesnt have any new posts from when I last looked at it. Yet the green symbol persists.. no matter how many times I click on it then click back to the forum again.

Curious. First guess would be that a setting on your browser has been changed to prevent that information from being updated, but that's a wild idea. I've not encountered this problem.

Hmmmm. That is a possibilty, my boyfriend is constantly playing with the computer, doing untold things to it, connecting all sorts of devices to it, so perhaps that is what has happened. Thanks for replying...

The flashing indicates that the thread is a "popular" one. Exactly what that means has never been clear to me. I guess I could dig through the PHP code to find out. There is no documentation for this software.

The green colour indicates that the thread has new posts, since your last "visit".

All four combinations of steady/flash and grey/green do occur.

Now... exactly what constitutes a "visit", I've never quite worked out. I generally take the green links, into tabs, and then hit the "Mark all topics read" - which works fairly well.

Even then, on seeing a new green link, sometimes (as in just a moment ago), the link will throw me to the EARLIER new post, that I have already viewed, although there will be a new post later on in the thread.

Anyway.... flashing means nothing of any great interest. Green means new posts.

Sometimes a member posts, and then deletes their post. This can lead to either the "No new posts since your last visit" message or the "Post/topic does not exist".

What seems to happen is that I find a thread which has a green symbol, I click on the thread. I read it. i post, or dont post. Then i go back to the forum and it still has a green symbol as if there was a new post.

The first time I noticed this is when I made a post and went back to the forum and saw the green new post symbol, I thought 'oh, someone must have posted after me." and then I scrolled across to see who it was, and my name was there. It should be changed to a gray symbol because I had been in the thread, but that had not happened for some reason.

Anyway it is not a big deal, and it is probably that the computer I am on it a bit buggy... maybe some setting in it has been changed somewhere and now it is behaving differently.

Try refreshing the page.

When I view a thread, and then hit the back button, it still shows green, because it's still showing the page from before I read the thread. If I refresh the page, it won't show green (unless there are additional new posts).

Alternatively, if I click a link to go back to the index page (within one of the subforums) rather than the back button, it gives me the page anew, as if I refreshed, but it might not do that for everyone; it may depend on your browser settings.

Thanks for the advice! But the green symbol persists if i refresh the page. Also, I dont use the back button after I have finished reading a thread, I always click the forum, ie "Random Discussion" so that it takes me to a refreshed version of the forum

anyway i am going to look at the cookie tab on my firefox settings now. Perhaps something has been unticked.... i dont know.
