Isn't there a better way to keep the kids out of there? Case in point: one was aged 15 yesterday, now he's 19 and in there.

What would you propose? On the internet, there is no specific way to verify someones age if they lie about it. There was a time when that forum wasn't even blocked.

With regards to the 15 year old posting in there, he created some joke threads a while back in random discussion that was moved to the adult forum because of the titles.

AND he changes his age. Last time i checked, it was changed back to its original age.

A few days suspension/not being able to post after changing age would be one idea.

Another idea would be to block people who increase their age, from be able to enter the adult forum at all. Only people who (by letting time pass) grow to the age of 18 should be let in there.

Personally, i'd used the banhammer to make an example but its not my forum...

I tend to be of the philosophy that for some things being caught and called on it is probably enough. At certain ages people just want to see what they can get away with.

Are these the "is my c**k big?" threads that I noticed disappeared? If so, moving them was a bit silly, considering the thread was a double-entendre and contained nothing objectionable, just a picture of a chicken...

There certainly is. A moderator could add each person to a group which allows certain people to a certain forum after getting two forms of identification from each individual, but that would be a bureaucratic nightmare. In the end, this is an over-fix for something that is not a real problem.

I was honest about my age and I did not think I would cause this much trouble. For the second time, I apologize for somehow offending you even though I think you are being over-dramatic. I had sincere questions about the human body and sexuality and I wanted to ask them in an appropriate form.

I am, however, not a kid. A kid is a child, and I am not a child. I turn 16 soon, and that means I am going through puberty. I am an adolescent, not a child.

Apparently, when I was that age, my class actually learned about it and this was sex education... But of course, it would have to be by your parents concern before they continued.
I don't know if they teach you that still in America round about that age?

I know all about sex in theory, but not in practice. I know the biological factors behind it, but not the emotional factors.

Citizenship in my school taught me about relationships and stuff like that, and the teacher made it fun and interesting for people, too.

There's nothing we can do if someone lies or changes their age unless they get caught (usually this happens because, for example, a 15 year old often simply cannot act like an 18 year old in terms of maturity or grammar). This forum is simply too big to police in the fashion that Ferdinand suggested, and doing so would make us legally accountable if someone gets access that they shouldn't have (by, for example, using their older brother's ID). For logistics and legal reasons, we simply cannot get that involved. If someone gets caught, we can either suspend them or send them a polite warning via PM asking them to change their age back. Usually the latter will suffice. Everything in moderation, including moderation.

Can I just ask, what's discussed in the adult section anyway? I obviously don't need details, but is it mostly sexual stuff? If so, do you really think that teenagers don't know about sex?

I can remember a former mod here saying to a minor here if they catch him in the adult section, he is banned. She knew he was underage because he had his age listed in his profile.

Asp-Z said it well. Teenagers know. We aren't blind to the fact that teenagers get into everything. But legally and morally we are required to maintain a distinction between certain adult topics and general discussion. Banning is a little harsh, unless it's a repeat offense.

Ferdinand, in theory you should be able to talk about the issues that normal adolescents face in the adolescent forum. I guess I say in theory because we're likely to flow towards protecting the innocence of those who have it. But, when the discussion is of broad application, it should stay. I remember you started one thread in GA about smell and there were some sexual comments in the response posts, and I was asked to move it to adult by a member, but I felt you had raised something noticed by many adolescents, and you obviously would lose access in adult, so I didn't do anything as a moderator (I don't think anyone else did, either, but I never checked). Basically, talking about those touchy subjects in our public forums is going to have to be on a case by case basis. When something is a serious issue for you but is kind of borderline with our TOS, perhaps consulting with a moderator can help, so we can see if there is a reasonable way to keep the thread on track. I don't want teens to feel they have to lie to gain access to the adult forum just to learn stuff they feel they need to know ... there should be a better way. The adult forums aren't really that informative when it comes to key knowledge, IMHO, so it's not like access would be a magic solution to all your questions.

LOL, hm, how can I answer that curiosity without making it worse? As an adult who is married and has all the standard adult interests and experiences, I personally don't find most of the discussions that interesting. Some of it is sexually related, some of it is just life stuff that posters don't want to share with younger members who would never have gone through it. It is obviously because of the former that the forums have an age restriction. If you have questions, you should be talking to responsible and trusted adults in real life instead of reading over the shoulders of adults talking to adults. If you just want to laugh and goof off, you should be doing that with people your own age. Those are the social rules. And legal ones
