why can't we edit & delete our posts after 9999 min.

i edit my e-mails about 10 times before i send them to people. i do the same thing for essays. why can't we edit and delete our posts here after 9999 minutes is it a technical thing

Not as it has been explained in the past; that 9999 minutes equates to almost a full week of time to edit your posts, which is ample time for most revisions. There have been individuals in the past who would troll or inflame other members by deleting their original material or substantially editing it as so to create conflict. If you need that time to edit and review, I would suggest doing so prior to posting your response; in a fair number of cases online, there isn't an option to edit after the fact at all.

actually, after a day i am unable to edit my posts. also, the rules could be so that only one's own posts could be edited.

As for that, you'd have to talk to Alex. Good luck. And you are able to only edit your own posts, period - please reread my response regarding people changing their own posts to provoke others. Honestly, I don't see a need for more than a couple days time to change things; other than that, additional posts can be made to amend the original.

There were some people here who go and edit all their posts by deleting their posts and putting in smileys or dots so Alex put a time limit on when we can all edit our posts after making them. Of other forums I go to, this place has the longest time limit that allows you to edit your posts.

I'm not sure if Aspergic did it, because I was able to do it with an unlimited amount of time, but I don't know if it was the same with you though?

I think it was unlimited but I was talking about forums that have the time limit on editing your posts.

Please change this. This is a nuisance.

A nuisance that after a week you have to stand by what you said and can't take it back?

A nuisance that you only have a week to correct any typos that you initially missed?

Honestly, I just can't see why a week isn't plenty long enough.

(Actually one hour and 21 minutes less than one week, for those who want preciseness.)

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, because I think these things clearly are nuisances (and also because I'm an Aspie, which goes without saying). What if someone posts a photo of themselves and later on realises that other people (site members or not) are going to find it and use it against them? It's a paranoid thought, but I don't think it's something that someone should have to suffer through just because there's a rule preventing them from editing or deleting their posts after a week.

If you have posted anything that needs to be removed then PM me or another moderator. We can move them out of the public forums.

In addition to asking a moderator, with photos, there's also the option of deleting the photo at the site where it's hosted.

Note that neither of the above suggestions has any effect on the archived/cached versions. E.g:

For example: http://preview.tinyurl.com/3385da2 - which shows that both text and images, once publicly available, even if for a few hours, is then permanently (?) available.

If you are going to be concerned about what you are about to post, don't post it. If this is not a determination you feel able to handle, post nothing.
