Why can't we add more features on WP?

WP has been around what? 2004.

I'm just wondering why like many other forums you can't add special features. For instance albums and friends in our profile, foes (though not open to the public, but in case we want to ignore them for various conflicts.), points in case we agree with a poster but don't want to respond publicly.

I don't know how a forum like this runs but I was wondering why we couldn't add some more features to this since it is after all a large community. I'm also unsure where the money comes from. Do users have to donate some money in order for this to happen? Does there need to be a vote before we can get to the discussion of money?

I think that the only functions that are required are some editing function buttons.

Mmmmhmmm, ok.....

I wasn't trying to say that your ideas weren't good, I'm just taking into consideration that forums have a lot of load on them as they are right now and adding features like that might bog down the servers more. I actually like the idea of friends lists and ignore lists.

I guess I assumed this matter would be much simpler to discuss even with the trouble in technacalities. I just think it would help the community understand eachother more in depth and perhaps attract other members with AS. But this is Alex's site so I guess it is for him to decide. Just an idea.

There are other aspie sites with some neat features.

New forum software is making forums too much like social networking sites IMO. I prefer how WP is now.

That said, an upgrade to VBulletin wouldn't hurt...

I'm good with vBulletin, I know the basic functions of how it work and best of all, you could still keep it the themes so I'm with you on that one.

Yeah, it's the best forum system out there. It ain't free, but with the amount of donations this forum's received, I'm sure Alex is more than capable of affording it.

Only thing is, it'd be a massive job importing the database of a forum this old with so many posts in to a whole new system.

I'm good with vBulletin too, I had the pleasure to operate a vBulletin forum for 2 years so I know much of the coding inside and out and its very advanced in capability.

I think an "ignore poster" feature would be a great addition. It would help with a lot of personality clashes.

It would mean that threads would make less sense to people who used such a feature, though.

Personally, I like the idea of having that feature but wouldn't it be a bad idea to come members and it would most likely create more havoc to the ones you ignore?

Agreed, I HATE when I'm posting and then it says that the server is overloaded. The main thing needed is better bandwidth.

The server is practically not even a year old yet and we had actually migrated to a new server and before the server that we have now, we would have to literally wait forever just to view to thread or post and the server is overloaded message would show up every 5 minutes.

The new server is not bad and is actually alot better than the old server in performance wise.

I would love to add friends to wrongplanet.

I recently did some performance tuning on the server, please let me know if anything has improved or gotten worse

As far as new features, theres some work underway investigating the forum software and things we can do. The software is a bit outdated, doesnt scale to the numbers we have very effectively, among other issues. I'm sure Alex will report when we have something we have looked at pretty solidly and found transitioning the current content to it to be reasonable. Its still research and development as of yet.
