Linking/embedding a work of art is not bloody copyright infringement! It is merely pointing to it. Since
the media is still under your direct control and not by someone else, you can still administrate control over it, i.e. blocking direct linking to the image file through a filter or similar feature on your webserver that require visitors to go to your site and then navigating to the media. Now, if someone were to copy the image to their own site, or circumvent such a direct linking feature, well, then we're talking serious copyright infringement.
Basically you cannot go around putting stuff on the internet that people can link to or embed and expect people NOT to link or embed it. DMCA and various other copyright laws does not protect wishful thinking.
