For me one of the most irritating things in online forums is reading through threads and you cannot read the original posts made by a particular poster because all their posts have been replace by ellipses. I thought one of the reasons for putting a time limit on when you can edit your own post is so that people don't confuse old threads by editing. To me an example of this is putting "...", "...", "..." in every post they made in that thread. I've recently seen at least two cases when people have done this within the 8 days they're allowed to edit, obviously because they know they can't do it afterwards:

Why do people do this?

I presume you're talking about Willard. A long time poster. He did it himself as far as we can tell, and hasn't been back since. Don't think anyone has a clue why. You'd have to ask him if he ever comes back. I assume he had his reasons.

It seems as though Willard decided to leave Wrongplanet for some reason. His intention seems to of been to delete all the posts he made during the last week he posted on here, probably so that someone he knows can't read them. The time limit on editing posts wouldn't of allowed him to do that to posts older than 8 days though. Does anyone know why he left? I liked reading some of his posts.

Don't know if there's any definitive answer here, but the question was asked:

there are a few members here that do this, including myself, especially if I have been going thought stressful situation, I tend to say some stupid things out of frustration, then I take a break from posting, I do hope Willard is ok, and will rejoin us here

The second example you linked to is someone who has always done this a lot, because she apparently almost always ends up hating what she has written, thinks that she has written rubbish.

And yes, the first one is Willard, who seems to have got really upset and angry on a couple of threads this last week, to the point of explosion and/or intolerable irritation, at what he saw as total idiocy, etc.

I hope he comes back too. I like a lot of his posts.

But it's not that common in general.
