I'm posting this as a public thread in the hope that Alex and other moderators will all see it and correct the bad decision that's been made here.

Today I got a PM from leejosepho saying that he deleted a thread I created containing a Facebook URL which would always forward you to your profile. The only reason he gave for this is that he thought "people might be freaked."

In this thread, I explained what the link did and even explained how it worked.

I've looked through the Wrong Planet rules and I don't see anything this thread was in violation of whatsoever, so I think I'm justified in saying that the moderator in question made a stupid decision which should be reversed. If this is not possible (i.e. the thread was permanently removed), then I think WP needs to make sure this moderator sticks to the rules and doesn't just delete threads randomly because he doesn't like them.

Thank you.

After a PM discussion, he's agreed to put the thread back but stick a "not for the faint of heart" message on it. All is good for now.

I actually did have a reason -- it freaked *me* out -- but you definitely had a legitimate complaint.

I have now been made aware of this:

"The only reason to move or lock a thread beside being in violation of the TOS is if a large number of people complain about it."

I might happen to be large myself, but "1" is a still pretty small number ...

TBH, it freaked me out too and then I made a joke out of it. I was hoping it was some sort of joke because I would hate to be accused of stalking someone when I am not even stalking anyone.

But I didn't complain about it because I don't complain about things here if it doesn't break any rules. And alex doesn't have anything in the rules about pulling pranks.

My favourite online prank was a site I found that had a photograph of a room they claimed had a ghostly image lurking in it. But you have to stare really hard to see the ghost... after around 30 seconds staring and seeing nothing there is a huge shriek and a hideous ghostly face suddenly appears to leap out of the screen at you. I got loads of people with that one. Not all found it funny though. One person nearly fell off his chair and didn't speak to me for days afterwards.

I saw that one somewhere myself and nearly peed my pants.

I remember that one too. I was 18 and my brother and his friend came and got me and told me they got a photo in the email from a friend and it's a ghost in there. It was caught in the picture. So I kept staring at it and they told me I have to look more closely and keep looking. Then that face showed up and my mom and my brothers and their friends laughed. I would have thought they did it to be mean but mom told me they did it to her too so I didn't take it personally. That photo prank must be old.

I also remember the rick rolled one. I remember a member getting banned here for it and I remember posting it elsewhere and well people got pissed and I got pissed because they couldn't take a joke so I made a youtube video about it showing people how it's not a big deal, just do end task and bam you didn't need to restart your computer. You can get back on the browser again and see it's rickrolled free. The admins took the link out but left the thread. I even remembering arguing in one of those threads with other users. But people on AFF took it better. But the link still got removed.
